재수생의 대학진학 결정요인 분석

국문 초록

본 연구는 한국직업능력개발원의 ｢한국교육고용패널조사(KEEP)｣ 1~3차 자료를 이용하여 일반계 고등학교 졸업생들을 대상으로 대입 재수생의 특성 및 재수의 성공 요인을 분석하였다. 분석결과에 따르면 일반계 고등학교 졸업생 가운데 약 22% 가량이 재수를 선택하고 있었으며 재수의 선택은 개인적인 특성보다는 가구 배경 특히, 가구소득이 큰 영향을 주고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 재수의 유형별로 성과의 차이가 있지만 이전의 성적을 그대로 유지하는 경우도 재수에 실패하였다고 가정한다면 재수를 통해 상위권 대학으로 진학하는 경우보다는 실패 사례가 더 많다고 볼 수 있었다. 재수경험 그 자체가 대학에 있어서 더 나은 성과를 담보한다는 증거는 찾을 수 없었으며 일반적으로 고교 재학당시 성적이나 지난해 수능 성적이 우수할수록 재수에 성공할 가능성이 높은 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구는 기존의 교육성과 연구와는 달리 이러한 관점을 재수생으로 한정한 최초의 연구이다. 특히 재수생을 유형별로 구분하고 재수의 성공 기준을 명확하게 나타내고 있어 향후 연구에 방향성을 제공한다는 점에서 의미가 크다고 할 수 있다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to estimate characteristics of repeaters in college entrance examination and success factors of retaking the college entrance examination for graduates from an academic high school. This study uses data from the first to third ｢Korean education & Employment Panel(KEEP)｣. Analysis showed that approximately 22% among graduates from an academic high school decided to study and prepare to reapply, and the background of a family, especially the family income contributes much more to a choice of retaking the college entrance examination than individual characteristics. Achievement is different from types of second chance on the college entrance exam. Supposing that we regard the type that repeaters in college entrance examination keep score the same as the previous year as failure, our research shows that repeaters in college entrance examination are more likely to failure than success. Not many traces of experiences of repreparation of college entrance examination itself secure a better result in our analysis. Generally, the much more repeaters get excellent high school records or CSAT scores in the previous year, the higher they are likely to succeed in preparation to reapply next year. This study set an object of study to repeaters in college entrance examination and it is different from the previous study about college educational performance in this respect. Particularly, we classified repeaters into types and set specific standards on success of repreparation for college entrance examination. In this regard, this analysis can suggest future direction of research.
