아버지의 아동기 경험과 자녀양육태도에 관한 연구

국문 초록

본 연구에서는 아버지 역할에 대한 패러다임이 바뀌고 있는 변화의 시대에 유아기 자녀를 둔 아버지들을 대상으로, 어린 시절 본인의 ‘아버지로부터 경험한 양육태도는 어떠했으며, 현재 자신의 자녀를 양육하는데 기본방향을 제시해주는 ‘바람직하게 생각하는 아버지상’과 ‘아버지 역할의 어려운 점’은 무엇인지를 알아보았다. 연구결과에 의하면 아버지들이 어린 시절 경험한 긍정적 또는 부정적인 아버지의 양육태도는 정신적 모델(mental model)이 되어 다양한 형태로 자신의 자녀양육태도에 영향을 미치고 있었다. 또한, 어린 시절 경험한 아버지의 양육태도는 권위적인 아버지, 자상한 아버지, 무뚝뚝한 수동적 아버지, 방임적 아버지 순으로 분류할 수 있었다. 현재 자신이 수행하고 있는 아버지 역할 중에 어려운 점으로 양육방법이 어려운 점, 시간이 부족한 점, 권위부족문제, 경제적문제 순으로 나타났다. 응답자들은 바람직한 아버지상으로 자상한 아버지와 친구같은 아버지를 추구하면서도 이와 동시에 전통적인 권위를 갖춘 아버지의 면모도 중요시하였다. 본 연구는 아버지의 양육태도에서 엄격하고 강압적인 잘못된 권위를 바로잡고, 합리적이고 생산적인 바람직한 권위를 회복하는 것이 필요하다고 제언한다. 또한 부정적인 양육태도의 세대전이라는 악순환의 꼬리를 끊고 보다 긍정적인 아버지 역할을 하기위해서 의식적인 노력이 중요함을 강조한다.

영문 초록

This study examined fathers with early childhood children and found out their childhood experience with their father and their idea of an ideal father figure. This study showed that the ideal father figure formed by the childhood experience affects the method of nurturing their own child. It is necessary for fathers to think about their own methods of nurturing their own child with regard to the effect their childhood experience with their parents has on them. By reflecting on their childhood experiences, an effort to become a more positive father figure should be made to break the bad cycle of negative nurturing attitude passing down to the next generation. An interesting aspect of this study's finding is that while the respondents thought that a friend-like father figure was most desirable, they also wanted to maintain the traditional authoritative father image. This study shows that fathers need to refrain from their strict and coercive authority and recover their productive and rational authority. Furthermore, in a time when fathers need to change their roles, education institutions and the local society needs to provide an educational system to help them.
