미국의 외국태생 이주민에 대한 성인교육활동의 조직방식에 관한 연구

국문 초록

본 연구는 외국태생 이주민을 대상으로 하는 미국 성인교육에는 미국화를 지향하는 교육목적이나 교육내용 외에도 미국화와 성인교육을 관계 짓는 모종의 방식, 즉 미국화 특유의 성인교육활동의 조직방식이 존재한다고 가정하고, 그 구체적 방식을 밝힘과 동시에 그에 의거하여 시사점을 찾는 데에 목적이 있다. 역사적으로 미국화 실시단계에서 미국화 특유의 성인교육활동의 구체적 조직방식은 미국화에 대한 정부개입을 가능하도록 하고, 미국화 프로그램을 각 지역에 유포하고, 미국문화를 선전하는 것이 가능하도록 지역단위를 활용한 방식에서 나타난다. 현재에 미국화 정착단계에서, 보스톤 지역을 보면, 미국화 특유의 성인교육활동의 조직방식은 교육내용의 수준에 따라서 지역단위를 달리하여 문해교육활동을 조직하고, 독자적으로 문해교육활동을 전개할 수 있는 네트워크를 조직하고, 미국사회 및 문화에의 적응과 동화에 필요한 정보를 제공하는 교육기회를 배분하는 것이 가능하도록 지역단위를 활용한 방식에서 나타난다. 결과적으로 이와 같은 미국화 특유의 성인교육활동의 조직방식은 공급자 중심의, 일방적인 방향으로의 적응을 본위로 한다는 점에서 비판된다. 이것은 현재 다문화 사회에 진입하고 있는 한국 사회에서 외국태생 이주민 중심의 문해교육활동 혹은 성인교육활동이 모색될 수 있는 방식으로 지역 단위를 활용하는 방안이 필요함을 시사한다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this paper is to explain the way of the organization of adult educational activities peculiar to Americanization in the relation to social situation and from past to now. The way of the organization of adult educational activities has constructed since industrial eras to Americanize immigrant from different countries. The adult educational activities were organized in the basis of local areas in the industrial eras. This way of organization of adult literacy educational activities in the basis of unit local took the result that represent of the way of infra structure for Americanization in that they provided human and physical capital. Now, adult literacy educational activities are organized in the same way in Greater Boston. Adult literacy educational activities have a feature that some activities are easy to access and the other activities is hard to access for the immigrant from different countries because of the opportunity of approach and level of content of literacy education. The way of adult educational activities are the way of distribution of opportunity of literacy education and information for Americanization. So this is suggested that it is need to explore of method which immigrant have to develope to adapt to Korean society for themselves.
