국문 초록

이 연구는 질적 연구방법론의 하나인 내러티브 탐구(narrative inquiry) 방법에 의해 진행되었으며, 초등귀국학생을 지도하는 교사들의 경험탐구를 홀리스틱 교육의 관점에서 탐구하는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 귀국학생과 더불어 삶으로서의 교육과정을 만들어 가는 초등학교 담임교사의 경험 형성에 대한 연구퍼즐(research puzzle)¹)을 가지고, 세 명의 참여교사의 귀국학생 지도경험의 내러티브를 탐구하였다. 이 연구의 결과 첫째, 교사들은 교육과정 만들기(curriculum making)²)에 대한 서로 다른 이해를 지니고 있으며, 그 이해를 바탕으로 각각의 그들이 교사로서 ‘살아가는 이야기(stories to live by)³)를 형성하게 된다는 것을 알게 되었다. 둘째, 귀국학생의 한국학교로의 재적응에 대한 교사의 관점이 서로 다르다 것을 이해하게 되었다. 본고는 ‘삶으로서의 교육과정(curriculum of lives)4)의 개념에 근거하여 귀국학생을 위한 교육과정 만들기에 있어 교사교육에 대한 중요한 시사점을 제시하며, 교사, 귀국학생, 학부모를 위한 새로운 가능성을 제시하기 위해 교육과정 만들기에 있어 내러티브적 관점의 중요성을 교사교육에 제안하고 있다.

영문 초록

The recent rapid increase in the number of Korean children who return to Korea after time spent abroad studying English raises concerns about their follow-up education and their readjustment into the Korean education system. The number of returnee children also raises concerns about how Korean teachers teach these children. The research was a narrative inquiry into three Korean teachers’ personal practical knowledge as it was expressed in their teaching practices, as it shaped their stories to live by. As a result of the study, two key considerations emerged. One, teachers shaped their own stories to live by holding different understandings about curriculum making. Two, teachers held different views about returnees' readjustment into the Korean schools. Drawing upon a concept of ‘curriculum of lives’ (Clandinin & Connelly, 1992), the key considerations from the study give important implications about in-service teacher education in terms of curriculum making for returnee children. The study suggests the importance of providing in-service teachers with an opportunity to think about a narrative perspective about curriculum making in order to suggest new possibilities for teachers, returnee children, and their parents.
