국문 초록

이 논문의 목적은 다양성과 다원주의를 특징으로 하는 정보사회에서의 다문화교육에 대한 21세기 인류의 대안적 시각으로 인정되는 홀리스틱 교육의 시각이 주는 함의에 대한 고찰이다. 지난 20세기는 우리 민족의 수난의 시기였다. 2011년 6월 현재 이주 노동자, 결혼 이민자, 북한 이탈주민 등 140만 명이 넘는 다문화 인구가 시사하는 것은 우리 사회 구성원들의 삶에 근본적인 변화에 대한 요청이다. 먹고 사는 문제의 해결에 지난 시대의 패러다임은 오늘날 우리 사회 구성원의 인간과 사회와 역사에 대한 인식의 틀을 저차원에 머물게 했다. 홀리스틱 교육은 자기 내면과 외면의 모든것과의 연계의식을 가지고, 내면의 조화와 외부 환경의 조화를 지향한다. 홀리스틱 교육을 통한 21세기 인류의 지향은 ‘공생’, ‘상생’, ‘생명 가치의 존중’, ‘더불어 함께 사는 사회’이다. 21세기 다문화 사회를 위해서는 배려와 보살핌, 공동체 의식을 바탕으로 참여하고 연대하여 전 인류의 보편적 가치를 실현하는 교육이어야 한다.

영문 초록

The objective of this study is to examine the directions of multicultural education from the viewpoints of holistic education, which is now considered as an alternative approach to modernistic education. In a broad sense, the terms of ‘holistic’ sometimes can be used as synonyms with ecological, integrated, contextual, spiritual, environmental, systematic, organic, and evolutionary. Therefore, the conception of holistic includes the one of all words above. Holistic education can be considered as an alternative approach to solve these problems of modernistic education, and at the same time seeks to restore the wholeness of human being with an emphasis on spirituality and meaning. We are living in a multicultural society which consists of immigrant laborers, marriage immigrants and inhabitants defectors of 1.4 million. Approaches to multicultural education seeks to reform the process of society in the diverse perspectives. This study makes clear the concept and goals of multicultural education, inquires a various of approaches to multicultural education in the perspective of holistic education. The concrete aims of this study are as follows: First, what is the reality of Korea as multicultural nation. Second, how holistic education will be the alternative approach? Third, the mood in Korea have been struggled and conflicted by cometition-centered society. Holistic education enables people in multicultural society to critically approach the cultural, moral, and political contexts of their lives. It recognizes that cultures are created by people and can be changed by people if they fail to serve important human needs. Holistic education seeks to restore the wholeness of human being with an emphasis on spirituality and meaning. Direction of multicultural education from the viewpoints of holistic education is to respect the characteristic of an immigrants, recognize sense of connection, value life above everything else.
