파생접사의 사용 양상과 생산성

국문 초록

본고에서는 문어를 중심으로 ‘소설’, ‘신문’, ‘학술산문’이라는 세 사용역으로 나누어 파생접사의 사용 양상을 살펴보았다. 그 결과, ‘격식성, 정보전달성, 학술성’에 따라 파생접사의 사용 양상이 크게 달라짐을 알 수 있었다. ‘격식성’과 ‘정보전달성’의 차이에 따라 ‘고유어’ 접사와 ‘한자어’ 접사의 사용 양상의 차이가 난다. 일부 접사는‘학술성’ 여부에 따라 차이를 보인다. 또한 동일하게 ‘정보전달’을 목적으로 하는 사용역일지라도 ‘정보의 밀집성’과 ‘전달되는 정보의 성격’에 따라 접사의 사용 양상이 다르게 나타난다. 접사의 사용 양상에 미치는 사용역별 요인을 제시하면 다음과 같다. 1. 격식성, 2. 정보전달성(a. 정보의 밀집성, b 정보의 주/객관성), 3. 학술성 (a. 학술 용어상의 특성 b. 학술적 문체상의 특성). 또한 파생접사의 사용 양상의 차이가 생산성의 차이로 이어지는지 살펴보았는데 파생접사의 생산성은 그 접사의 사용 양상과는 무관할 수도 있다는 결과를 얻을 수 있었다. 이러한 결과는 사용역간의 생산성의 차이가 있다고 결론을 내린 플래그 외(1999)와는 상반되는 것인데 본고의 결과는 생산성이 접사가 가진 내재적 속성이라는 가설에 부합한 결과가 나왔다는 점에서 생산성과 관련된 연구에 또 하나의 논의를 보탤 수 있을 것이다.

영문 초록

This article shows that the usage pattern of derivational affixes appears differently across the written registers by several factors. Primarily the usage pattern of derivational affixes varies with ‘formality’, ‘information delivery’, and ‘academic subject’. The usage pattern of native Korean affixes and Sino-Korean affixes varies with ‘formality’ and ‘information delivery’. Though the purpose of two resisters is identically ‘information delivery’, the usage pattern of affixes varies with ‘density of information’ and ‘characteristic of information’. In addition,several affixes appear frequently in academic prose. The factors that affect the usage pattern of affixes are as follows. 1. Formality 2. Information delivery (a. density of information b. subjectivity and objectivity of information) 3. Academic subject (a. characteristic of academic writing b. characteristic of the formation of technical terms). Meanwhile, this article examines the correlationship between the frequency and morphological productivity of affixes. We conclude that the frequency and morphologicalproductivity of affixes is not relevant. This result conflicts with Plag et al. (1999) that shows that morphological productivity is affected by register. However, it seems to be that this conclusion is meaningful because our result accords with the hypothesis that morphological productivity is language internal property.
