국문 초록

이 글은 이광호의 『국어파생 접사의 생산성과 저지에 대한 계량적 연구』(2009)에 대한 서평이다. 이광호(2009)는 단어형성과정의 생산성과 저지 현상에 대해 코퍼스를 활용하여 계량적인 방법으로 접근하였다. 형태적 생산성에 대하여 기존의 직관 중심의 연구와는 달리 자료 중심의 형태론 연구라는데 그 의의가 있다. 자료 중심의 경험적 연구를 통해 기존의 연구에서 미처 고려하지 못하였던 여러 현상들을 설명 하였다. 이 글에서는 이광호(2009)에서 제안한 생산성의 개념 및 생산성 측정 방법, 데이터의 추출과 결과 해석, 생산적인 접사 또는 비생산적인 접사의 문제, 저지 현상 등에 대해 논의한다. 생산성은 매우 복잡한 현상이며 형태론의 여러 개념들이 포함되어 있다. 앞으로 다양한 논의가 이광호(2009)를 통해 전개되기를 기대한다.

영문 초록

This paper reviews Lee, Kwang-ho (2009) A Quantitative study on Productivity of Korean Affixes and Blocking, Seoul: Taehaksa. Lee (2009) performed quantitative analysis on data obtained from a Korean corpus to show the basic word formation process. His study also identified both factors that increased productivity and those that produced blocking effects. First, the author presented the index of productivity in relation to the productivity of affixes, specifying the relative productivity. Second, he considered the type frequency and frequency distribution sets of derivatives as evidence of productivity. Third, blocking effects and their exceptions were explained with reference to frequency and the index of productivity. Whereas earlier studies have relied on qualitative analysis, Lee (2009) conducted his research on morphological productivity using large amounts of data taken from a corpus. This corpus-based quantitative approach enabledthe author to examine phenomena that had not been considered in previous research. In this review, we considered the concept of productivity and the methods of measuring the degree of productivity in terms of their effectiveness in explaining the productivity of Korean derivational affixes; in addition, we also pointed out several problems in relation to blocking effects.
