국문 초록

이 글은 21세기 한국사회가 직면하고 있는 초저출산, 만혼⋅비혼⋅이혼의 급증 등 다양한 가족․인구적 격변상을 경제와 사회의 기본적 재생산체계상의 위기로서 설정하고, 이러한 위기가 한국사회의 가족중심적 근대성(산업자본주의화) 및 이차근대성(신자유주의 세계화)에 맞물려 나타남을 구체적이고 체계적으로 설명하려는 것이다. 구체적으로, 압축적 근대성으로 요약되는 급격하고 복잡한 역사적 변화가 가족중심적으로 전개되는 과정에서 거시 정치경제 질서에 배태된 갖가지 경제․사회․심리적 위험의 가족화가 이루어짐으로써 한국인들은 갈수록 가족관계를 위험관리(risk management) 차원에서 조절해야 할 필요성에 직면하게 되었다. 특히 지난 세기말 경제위기 이후 가속화된 경제체제의 구조적 불안정화 및 이에 맞물린 만성적인 사회․생태적 위기에 직면한 한국인들이 개인과 가족의 삶에서 광범위한 ‘위험회피(risk aversion)’적 행태를 보임으로써 궁극적으로 사회재생산체계 전체의 위기가 전개되고 있음을 밝힐 것이다. 이러한 방향의 연구는 사회재생산 추세를 구성하는 가족․인구적 현상들의 분석에 있어 지역․계층별로 생활세계와 정치경제의 상호작용이 어떠한 양상으로 전개되는지를 구체적으로 밝혀야 할 필요성을 내포한다.

영문 초록

South Korean society in the 21st century has confronted extremely low fertility, drastic increases in late marriage, singlehood, and divorce, and a host of other radical familial and demographic changes. These symptoms, constituting a fundamental crisis in the basic social and economic reproduction system, are manifested as a consequence of the society's family-centered modernity(capitalist industrialization) and second modernity(neoliberal globalization). As the extremely fast and complex social changes, explainable as compressed modernity, have occurred in a highly family-centered way, various economic, social, and psychological risks embedded in the macro political economic order have been familialized. In this context, most South Koreans have increasingly faced a need to deal with family relations in terms of risk management. In particular, the accelerated structural instability of the economic system and the accompanying social and ecological crises since the national financial crisis of 1997-98 have induced widespread behaviors of risk aversion in South Koreans' familial and individual life, which apparently prefigures a wholesale crisis of the entire social reproduction system. These trends seem to indicate a necessity that, in analyzing familial and demographic phenomena that constitute social reproduction tendencies, we should illuminate in detail how life world and political economy interact for different regions and classes.
