百濟 武寧王의 出自에 관한 小考

영문 초록

There are many unsolved mysteries surrounding King MuRyung, the 25th king of Baekjae Dynasty, especially in regards to the dates of his birth and death. But it is precisely these dates which can help to unlock hidden facts concerning the King and the Baekjae Kingdom. According to Nihon Shoki(Japanese History Book), King MuRyung was born in May, AD 461 in Fukoaka as son and heir to Baekjae’s King KaeRyung. Nihon Shoki records King MuRyung’s death in May. AD 523. In Korea’s SamGukSaKi(History of Three Kingdoms), King MuRyung’s date of birth is not mentioned but his death is recorded in May, AD 523. An interesting difference of facts between the two historical texts. Ninon Shoki and SamGukSaKi, is that while in the former. King MuRyung is the son, in the latter, King MuRyung is recorded as the great grandson of King KaeRyung. Because of this historical discrepancy in the two historical texts, many scholars faced difficulties in interpreting history of this era. But in July. 1971, an important excavation conducted in Kongju City, ChoongChung Province, revealed many treasures including King MuRyung’s inscription of his personal history which showed that he died at 62 years of age in AD 523. It also mentioned his father as King KaeRyung. The inscription found in Kongju confirmed Nihon Shoki’s records and therefore, it can be concluded that King MuRyung was the son of King KaeRyung. Other facts from Kongju reveal that King MuRyung was born in AD 461 in Japan where he lived until his 42nd year(AD 502) when he went to Korea to be the new King of Baekjae. It should be also noted King MuRyung ruled as King of Japan for 20 years. It is this writers’s theory that the young King MuRyung is the same person as King Mu mentioned in the Song Dynasty History Book(China) who ruled Japan as a foreign King during this era.
