낱말 친숙도 및 음운규칙 적용 유무에 따른 학령기 읽기장애 아동의 받침철자 인식 및 쓰기 특성

국문 초록

배경 및 목적: 최근 아동 및 청소년들의 철자의 수행에 대한 관심은 높으나 철자 수행 수준을 세분화하여 측정할 수 있는 검사가 부족하다. 또한 기반이 되는 철자 연구에서 철자 수행 수준에 영향을 미칠 수 있는 낱말 친숙도가 고려되지 않아서 친숙도가 철자 수행에 있어서 어떤 영향력을 미칠지 검증되지 않았다. 그러므로 학령기 읽기장애 아동과 일반 아동을 대상으로 친숙도 정도 및 음운규칙 적용 유무에 따라서 철자법에 맞게 낱말을 쓰는 능력과 지각하는 능력의 수행 차이가 있는지 비교하여 읽기장애 아동들의 받침철자 특성에 대한 정보를 제공함으로써 효과적인 받침철자 평가 및 중재 방안을 모색하고자 하였다. 방법: 초등학교 4~5학년 읽기장애 아동 20명과 성별, 학년, 및 생활연령을 일치시킨 일반아동 20명, 총 40명을 대상으로 친숙도 및 음운규칙 적용 유무에 따라 문맥 안에서의 받침철자 쓰기와 인식과제를 실시하였다. 분석결과는 집단을 집단 간 요인으로 과제유형과 친숙도/음운규칙을 집단 내 요인으로 하여 3요인 혼합분산분석을 실시하였다. 결과: (1) 친숙도에 따른 받침철자 정반응률과 과제 유형에 따른 받침철자 정반응률은 집단 간 유의미한 차이를 보였고, 집단 내 변인에서는 과제유형과 친숙도의 주효과가 유의하게 나타났으나, 상호작용은 친숙도와 집단 간 이차상호작용만 유의하였다.(2) 음운규칙 적용 유무에 따른 받침철자 정반응률도 집단 간 유의미한 차이를 보였고, 집단 내 변인에서도 음운규칙 적용 유무의 주효과가 유의하게 나타났다. 상호작용은 모든 요인들 사이에서 유의하게 나타났다. 논의 및 결론: 읽기장애 아동은 친숙도가 낮은 낱말과 음운규칙이 적용되는 낱말의 받침철자법에 대한 이해가 부족한 것으로 나타났다. 또한 받침철자법에서 음운처리 능력의 문제도 작용하는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 받침철자 능력을 평가하고 중재할 때, 친숙도가 고려되어야 한다는 것과, 중재 시에 한국어 음운규칙 및 철자 발달단계에 대한 내용을 적용하는 것이 효과적일 수 있음을 시사한다.

영문 초록

Background & Objectives: The purposes of this study were 1) to examine whether there are significant differences in accuracy depending on the type of tasks and word familiarity in children with reading disabilities compared to those in the age-matched typically developing children, 2) to examine whether there were significant differences in accuracy depending on the task type and the existence of phonological rules between the groups, and 3) to investigate the types of spelling errors in the spelling dictation and recognition tasks in children with reading disabilities and the control group. Methods: A total of 40 children participated in the study, including 20 children with reading disabilities (RD) and 20 age-matched typically developing children (TD). The children were fourth- and fifth-graders from the same elementary school. Dictation and recognition tasks were developed for this study, each consisting of 42 words. The words were divided into familiar and unfamiliar word groups according to the existence of phonological rules such as liaison, aspiration, neutralization, consonant cluster simplification, and consonant assimilation. A three-way mixed ANOVA was computed with the group as a between-subject factor and the type of task and word-familiarity as within-subject factors. Results: 1. There was a significant main effect for the children with RD showing significantly worse performance than that of the TD group, with better performance shown with the familiar words compared to that of the unfamiliar word. 2. There was a significant main effect of group, showing that children with RD performed significantly worse than did the age-matched control children, with better performance shown for words with phonological rules compared to that of words with no phonological rules. 3. Both groups showed similar error patterns in the final consonants, including those of both phonetic and replacement errors. However, children with RD showed more frequent errors in the words with final consonant clusters and final consonant rules than did the age-matched control group. Discussion & Conclusions: Greater differences were observed in children with RD compared to that of those in the TD group as a function of task type and phonological rules. The error types regarding the phonological rule were consistent in RD children, whereas they were not consistent in the age-matched control group.
