한국의 근대화 논의에 대한 비판적 성찰

국문 초록

근대 계몽기획은 ‘자기비판’과 ‘현실비판’을 내재원리로 삼는 미완의 기획이다. 자신조차도 산업화-민주화의 내적대립, 즉 변증법적 발전 속에서 지속적으로 재(再)근대화 된다. 따라서 오늘날 서구의 주권해체 현상은 탈(脫)근대가 아닌, ‘만회적(挽回的)’ 또는 ‘재(再)’근대화로 보는 것이 온당하다. 과학기술의 발전은 재(再)산업화를 추동한다. 민주화 역시 재산업화를 토대로 다시 재(再)민주화를 겪는다. 더 세밀해지거나 생성 또는 소멸되는 법과 제도들이 이를 증명한다. 그러나 여기엔 계몽의 내재원리인 ‘자기비판’과 ‘현실비판’이 전제 되어야 한다. 애당초 비판이 결여된 발전이란 전제는 성립될 수 없기 때문이다. 따라서 우리 역시 비록 우리의 근대화가 봉건적 잔재들과 그 변형태들에 의해 유린 되었을 지라도 ‘서서히’ 계몽된 시민사회가 이뤄온 결과들에 주목해 자기비판을 시도해야 한다. 이것은 다음의 현실비판으로 나아가기 위함이다. 여기엔 보수도 진보도 자유로울 수 없다. 해방은 물론 이념경쟁도 끝났다. 더 이상 우리의 적은 제국주의나 신자유주의가 아니다. 우리의 새로운 타격은 학문, 기술, 예술을 토대로 하는 재산업화와 계급으로는 포괄되지 않는 신(新)소외계층, 즉 시민일반 모두를 사회 속으로 포용할 수 있는 새로운 소통적 재민주화에 맞춰져야 한다. 이것만이 21세기를 채워야 하는 우리사회의 통합논리이고 목표다.

영문 초록

Modern enlightenment planning is an unfinished one basing self-criticism and criticism of reality as its intrinsic principle. Even one’s own self is continuously re-modernized in the midst of internal conflict between industrialization and democratization, or dialectical development. Accordingly, it’s proper to consider today’s phenomenon of sovereignty deconstruction in the West to be retrievable, or re-modernized, not post-modernity. Development of scientific technology gives spur on re-industralization. Democratization also undergoes re-democratization on the basis of re-industralization. More minute, generative or dissipating laws and institutions prove it, which, however, should be on the premise of the intrinsic principle of enlightenment, or self-criticism and criticism of reality. It’s because the premise of ‘development lacking in criticism’ cannot be established from the start. Accordingly, though our modernization is violated by feudal vestiges and their transformational shape, it’s necessary for us to attempt at self-criticism by taking note of the outcomes performed by the gradually enlightened civil society. This is an important step toward the next criticism of reality. From this realm, neither conservative groups nor progressive groups cannot be free. It is not only independence from the rule of Japanese imperialism, but ideological competition has already gone. Our enemy is not imperialism, or neo-liberalism any more. Our new blow should be aimed at re-industrialization based on sciences, technology, and art, the new neglected stratum of society that isn’t included in a class, and a new communicational re-democratization. This is the very integrated logic and goal that could sustain our human beings living in the 21st century.
