모리츠 사실주의 단편소설의 주요 모티프 분석

국문 초록

모리츠 지그몬드(Móricz Zigmond)는 20세기 헝가리 문학을 대표하는 작가 중 한사람이다. 그는 서유럽에 비해 현저히 뒤쳐졌던 헝가리 문학 수준을 서유럽과 대등한 위치로 격상시킨 헝가리 문학동인지 『뉴거트(Nyugat)』의 제 1세대 작가이기도 하다. 모리츠가 살았던 20세기 초 헝가리는 여러 면에서 헝가리의 과도기적 시기로 정치, 경제, 사회, 문화 모든 면에서 혼란이 팽배해 있던 시기였다. 그는 당시 헝가리 농촌의 처절한 상황들을 목도하고 단편소설을 통해 헝가리 농촌의 현실을 사실주의적으로 묘사, 분석하였다. 본고에서는 모리츠의 단편 소설 중 10편을 시대별로 선정하고 그 작품들에 나타난 주요 모티프를 분석하였다. 이를 통해 당시 헝가리 사회를 이해하고 동시에 대표적인 헝가리 사실주의 작가인 모리츠의 사상과 문학관을 살펴보았다. 분석 작품들에서 5가지 주요 모티프를 살펴 볼 수 있는데 강자와 약자의 갈등 모티프, 죽음 모티프, 가난 모티프, 문화 충돌 모티프, 배우자 선택 모티프가 그것이다. 이들 중에서 가장 자주 등장하는 모티프는 강자와 약자의 갈등 모티프, 죽음 모티프, 가난 모티프인데 이들 모티프는 서로 밀접한 관계를 이루며 서로 반복되어 나타난다. 강자와 약자의 갈등구조 속에서 약자가 강자에 의해 희생되는 경우는 2편에서 나타나며 돌이킬 수 없는 마음의 상처를 입는 경우는 3편에서 나타난다. 나머지 1편에서는 양자가 적당히 (부정적으로)타협하게 되며 나머지 한편에서는 서로 완전히 갈등을 해소하고 서로 협력하게 되는 경우이다. 따라서 모리츠 단편소설에서 갈등이 상호 이해의 과정을 거쳐 완전히 해소되는 경우는 극히 드물다. 한 가지 특이한 점은 갈등의 대립 구조 속에서 항상 승리자는 강자인데 그 강자는 약자에 대한 승리 후에도 결코 행복감을 느끼지 못한다는 점이다. 한 가지 안타까운 사실은 20세기 초 헝가리의 이렇게 처절한 삶을 고발하고 있는 모리츠는 그 어떠한 해법이나 대안을 제시하지 못하고 있다는 점이다. 모리츠의 작품 속에 당면한 문제나 어려운 현실에 대한 희망적인 메시지나 희망의 가능성은 거의 찾아 볼 수 없다. 이는 모리츠가 당시 헝가리의 상황을 그만큼 절망적이고 회의적으로 보고 있다는 증거일 것이다.

영문 초록

Zigmond Móricz is one of the hungarian writers, who represents the hungarian literature in 20th century. He was also one of the first generation writer of『Nyugat』, which was a hungarian literary coterie magazine, and which raised the hungarian literary level up to west european literary level. At the beginning of the 20th century of Hungary it was a transitional period in many respects and was in a state of chaos in politics, in economy, in society, in culture, and in many ways. Since he observed the sorrowful life in rural communities of Hungary at that time, he had described the reality of the rural life of Hungary by his short stories. I selected ten works among the short stories of Móricz and I have analysed the main motifs, which are shown in the works. The results will make us understand the society of Hungary of that time and will make us to see his idea and his point of view about literature. I could find five main motifs among his ten works. That is the motif of conflict between the strong and the weak, the motif of death, the motif of poverty, the motif of crash of culture, and the motif of choice of spouse. Among these motifs, the motif of conflict between the strong and the weak, the motif of death, the motif of poverty are shown the most frequently and the motifs have close links with each other. In the two works, we can see the case, in which the weak is victimiakd by the strong and in the three works, the weak feels deeply wounded by the strong. In one work, both sides compromise (negatively) with each other and in one work, both sides resolve the conflicts complotily and cooperate with each other. Therefore, it is extremely rare case in the Móricz´s short stories that both sides resolve the conflicts complotily and cooperate with each other. One interesting point in Móricz´s works is the fact that the strong is always victor, but he never feels happy. And one miserable fact is that Móricz does not propose any solutions or alternatives. So we can´t find any hopeful signs or massages about the present problems. It proves that Móricz looked the situation of Hungary of that time hopelessly and skeptically.
