This study focuses on the role of supervisor in helping employees manage and perform in their work and life domains. Few studies examine the role of supervisor support in small, medium enterprises and fewer examine the potential interactions supervisor support and work-family programs have on employee work and family outcomes. In this study, we tested the effects of supervisor support and the interactive effects of supervisor support and work-family programs on turnover intention, job satisfaction, and family satisfaction. Usable data came from 200 employees working in ten small and medium enterprises in Singapore. Results indicated that (a) greater supervisor support were associated with lower turnover intention and higher job and family satisfaction even after controlling for available work-family programs, work-family conflicts and organizational commitment; and (b) the effects of supervisor support on work and family outcomes differed depending on the availability or non-availability of different work-family programs.
