국문 초록

이 연구는 테크놀로지 매개(Technology-mediated)의 영어교육에 대한 이론적인 바탕을 고찰하고, 이를 통한 학습-교수법의 원리적 성격 및 구체적활용에 대해 논의하고 있다. 먼저, Vygotsky의 사회문화이론(SocioculturalTheory, SCT)의 기본 개념인 중개(mediation)와 근접발달영역(Zone ofProximal Development, ZPD)를 중심으로 여러 가지 테크놀로지를 매개로한 영어 교육을 어떻게 이해할 것인가에 대해 이론적으로 고찰한다. 이 연구는 Vygotsky의 근접발달영역(ZPD) 개념에서 제시된 외부적인 도움(assistance)을 기존의 교사나 부모와 같은 어른의 도움과 학생들 간의 상호협력을 넘어서 컴퓨터와 인터넷으로 대표되는 테크놀로지와 이것들의 활용으로 확대하고 있다. 또한 테크놀로지 매개의 언어교육(TechnologymediatedLanguage Education, TMLE)의 특징을 양방향 상호작용, 여러 가지 학습 내용과 다각적인 수업, 컴퓨터와 테크놀로지 사용의 기술적 교육이라는 3가지로 논하고 있다. 마지막으로, 이와 같은 TMLE의 특징들을 한국의 영어 교육 환경에 적용할 수 있는 교수⋅학습법을 제시한다. 특히 학생들의 흥미와 참여도를 고취시키며 다양화된 수준별 학습이 가능한 모형을 인터넷 자원의 활용, 커뮤니케이션의 도구로써의 활용, 파워포인트 중심의 멀티미디어 프로젝트의 활용에서 탐색한다.

영문 초록

This study focuses on practical implications of technology-mediated English education using Vygotskian sociocultural theory (SCT) that consists of the fundamental concepts of mediation and the zone of proximal development (ZPD). This approach redefines the role of assistance from adults (teachers or parents) and peers in the ZPD and expands it to interactions with technologies such as computers and the Internet. It also incorporates effective teaching methods and practical implications by using computers and online contents in English learning in order to present concrete and empirical examples that can be applied in the EFL learning environment such as Korea. Therefore, the study first discusses the concept of mediation and the ZPD by looking at Vygotskian sociocultural theory, and then discusses the use of computers and the Internet as an expanded concept of “the help of others.” Finally, it suggests practical applications for the teaching of English that can facilitate the student’s engagement through CMC (computer-mediated communication), even for those of Different levels of proficiency.
