영문 초록

Sandor Petöfi(1823-1849) is still the Hungarian poet best known in Hungary and abroad. He was really endowed with everything a great poet needs; talent , the right view of historical situation and his courage to realize his belief to gain independence from the Vienna. The Hungarian Movement for the Independence broke out with the initiative of the literary men. Petöfi was in the forefront of the movement. 'The National Song' his well known poem, was the very catalyst to complete the Hungarian Movement. The people was united by the song and marched together into the Independence Later Petöfi participated into the War of Independence on his life to realize his dream without hesitation. So it is natural that the Hungarian people loved and respeced Petöfi and his literature. This paper analyzed the poet's life and works in the time of the Hungarian War of Independence. And the paper came to know that his literary work , "The National Song," had directly affected on the real politics and history. In a sense , 'The National Song' became a Hungarian version of the Decalaration of Independence. The Hungarian people moved by the song and marched into the Independence Movement In the context, we became to know that the literature- the literature of the engagement- can change the reality and playa role to plan the future. Petöfi's life and his litery works was the very example of the engagement. It is a long tradition that Hungarian people pay a visit to the statue of Petöfi in Pest and lay wreath at him. Petöfi is still alive in the heart of the People in all the Hungarians and become symbol of the Hungarian Independence and their future.
