국문 초록

원격교육기관에서 사회적 실재감은 구성주의적 학습 이론을 기반으로 하여 학습자들의 토론을 향상시키고 학습공동체 형성과 관련된 개념으로 강조되어 왔다. 본 연구에서는 사회적 실재감을 참여자들간에 느끼는 접근성과 유대감의 정도로 보면서 사회적 실재감과 인구특성학적 변인 및 학습성과와의 관계를 살펴보고 사회적 실재감을 향상시키는 교수자의 역할에 따라 학습자들의 변화를 양적, 질적 분석을 통해 살펴보았다. 그 결과 사회적 실재감과 성, 연령, 학년 등과 의 상관관계는 유의하지 않은 반면 지각된 학업성취도 및 수업만족도와의 상관관계는 유의하게 높은 것으로 나타났다. 사전, 사후의 차이분석 결과 사후 사회적 실재감의 평균이 사전에 비해 향상되었으나 유의한 차이는 나타나지 않았다. 참여자들의 메시지 내용과 주관적 설문 내용을 질적으로 분석한 결과 사회적 실재감을 조장하는 교수자의 역할이 참여자들의 정서적, 상호적, 결속적 영역에 영향을 미쳤음을 알 수 있었다.

영문 초록

Social presence in distance higher education has been emphasized as a concept to motivate students' participation in discussion and to develop their feeling as a community member based on constructive learning theory. While this study defined social presence as participants' feeling on accessibility and connectedness with others, it examined the relation between social presence and demographic variables and learning outcome and executed quantitative and qualitative analysis on students' changes according to instructor's role to increase social presence. The study result showed that there was no correlation found between social presence and any of demographic variables such as sex, age, and academic grade but significantly positive correlation between social presence and perceived learning achievement and learning satisfaction. While the mean of social presence in post-study was improved compared with the one of pre-study, analysis result didn't support significant difference of two studies. Meanwhile qualitative analysis on content of students' messages and answers from open survey questionnaires indicated that instructor's role did effect on social presence of students. The effect was found in and categorized as effective, interactive and cohesive areas. Further study should be followed with diverse learning environment and large samples enough to make its result generalized.
