신자유주의 소비문화적 쉼에 대한 반성적 성찰

국문 초록

이 글은 "오늘날 우리에게 '쉼'이란 무엇일까?"라는 질문을 시작으로 민주주의의 급진화와 연대적 실천에 기반한 해방 의 가능성을 찾으려고 한다. 신자유주의 소비문화 속에서 인간의 주체성은 생산주체와 소비주체로 분화되며, 소비주 체는 소비능력자와 소비무능력자로 다시 분화된다. 이러한 주체성의 분화와 재분화는 신자유주의 체제 내에서의 인간 소외를 더욱 심화시킨다. 오늘날 우리에게 '쉼'은 더 많은 노동을 강요하고, 더 많은 소비를 자극한다. 신자유주의 체 제 하에서 쉼은 생명유지의 기본조건도, 노동의 재생산을 위한 준비도 아니고, 단지 자본의 이윤추구를 위해 소비가 강요되는 시공간일 뿐이다. 신자유주의 소비문화 속에서 뒤틀어진 '쉼'에 대한 반성은 구체적으로는 일상의 소비형태에 대한 반성으로 연결된다. 또한 이러한 반성은 인간의 소외를 극복하는 다양한 노력으로 이어진다. 이러한 노력은 민 주주의의 급진화와 연대적 실천을 요구한다. 이 두 실천전략이 작동하는 지점은 거대 정치전선이 아니라, 개인의 육 체이다. 결론적으로 이 글은 생명유지와 행복감의 증대를 위한 활동으로서의 쉼의 회복이 오늘날 민주주의와 연대가 추구하는 가치와 목표이어야 함을 주장한다.

영문 초록

With the question of 'what is the rest for us today?', this paper tries to examine possibility of emancipation by radicalization of democracy and the practice of solidarity. Under the neoliberal consumer culture, the human subjectivity has been divided into the subject of production and of consumption. The latter re-divides into 'the capable consumers' and 'the incapable consumers'. The double process of the division and re-division of the human subjectivity leads to deepen the human estrangement in the neoliebral system. Today, 'the rest' for us exacts more labor from us, and stimulates us to consume more commodities. Under the neoliberal system, the rest is regarded as no more basic condition for the survival nor preparation for tomorrow's labor, but only the time of the forced consumption for the more capitalist profits. There flection of the rest distorted by the neoliberal consumer culture links to another reflection of the pattern of consumption in everyday life, and furthermore links to various efforts to overcome the human estrangement. These efforts demand the radicalization of democracy and the practice of solidarity. The locus where these two practical strategies operate is not a grand political front, but a human body. Through the continuous compassion and understanding on pain of the body and by direct responses on the pain, these two strategies attempt to subvert the positivity of the existing order and power relations that tend to cause many different forms of the pain. In conclusion, this paper argues that the restoration of the rest as the activity for the life maintenance and the increase of happiness should be the key value and aim of today's democracy and solidarity.
