국문 초록

이 논문에서는 무엇이 과연 진정한 그리스도교적인 회심체험이며 회심한 그리스도인의 삶의 자세는 어떠해야하는가 라는 질문을 가지고 미국 가톨릭신학자인 도날드 젤피 의 회심이론을 그의 저서를 중심으로 살펴보았다. 그의 회심이론은 종교체험 연구의 선구자인 윌리엄 제임스의 자아 통합과정으로서의 회심에 대한 기본 견해를 전제로 버나드 로너간 의 회심이론에 기반하여 확장시킨 이론이라 할 수 있다. 로너간은 지성적 도덕적 종교적 회심을 구분하는 가운데 이중 종교적 회심을 그 정점에 두고있다. 그리고 로너간은 후기에 심리적 또는 감성적 회심의 필요성을 주장했다. 젤피 역시 이러한 필요를 수용하여 감성적 회심을 자신의 회심이론에 추가했다. 그는 인간 경험의 영역을 감성 사변 도덕성 그리고 종교성으로 구분하고 지평의 변화라는 로너간의 개념을 확대하여 규범적 틀의 변화라는 시각에서 책임감 있는 태도로의 변화로 회심을 정의했다. 회심이란 인간 모든 경험 영역에서 무책임한 행위로부터 책임 있는 행위로 나아가려는 결정이다. 여기에서 핵심 개념은 책임감이다. 그리고 인간의 경험의 영역을 감성, 지성, 양심,사회적 관계 ,종교성으로 구분하여 로너간이 제시되지 않았던 사회정치적 영역을 추가했다. 또한 그는 각 영역의 회심이 다른 영역과 무관하게 발생할 수 있다고 전제하면서도 이들 상호간의 역동적관계를 그려냈다. 회심의 역동성이란 서로 다른 회심들이 서로 간에 영향을 주는 방식을 의미한다. 이때 젤피는 종교적 회심의 역동성을 세단계로 제시하면서 첫 두 단계의 역동성은 종교적 회심에서 다루고 다른 하나의 역동성인 지성적 회심의 정보 제공 기능은 자연적 회심의 영역에서 다루었다.

영문 초록

What do we say about the authentic Christian experience of conversion and its relationship with the real everday life attitude? Having this question in mind, and American Catholic theologian, Donald Gelpi's theology of conversion is investigated based on his Committed Worship : A Sacrramental Theology for Converting Christians. His conversion theology is grounded on the prominent scholar of religious experiences, William James' idea of conversion as a self-unifying process, and is expanded further from Bernard Lonergan's transcendental understanding of conversion experience. Lonergan distinguished conversion into three different levels according to his own division of human consciousness, ie, intellectual, moral, and religious conversion. Among these, the religious conversion is at the center of importance. Later he realized the need for an another dimension of conversion in affective level of human consciousness. Gelpi, too, upon recognizign the same need, added the affective conversion into his construction of conversion theology. he distinguished the level of human experience as affection, intelligence, conscience, social relationship, and religiosity, and then expanding Lonergan's idea of 'change of horizons', the key to Lonergan's conversion theology, to the change of normative sturcture of consciousness and reponsible attitude. He defines conversion as "the decision to pass from irresponsible to responsible behavior in some distinguishable realm of human experience." The key to this understanding is 'responsibility'. And he added the socio-political conversion, which does not appear in Lonergan, due to his division of the realm of human experience. He further explains the dynamic relationship among the five conversions in 7 different ways. By the dynamics of conversion he means the way in which the different forms of conversion mutually condition one another. Specifically, be expains the dynamics of religious conversion in 3 levels, among which the first two are described in religious conversion, and the other one, the intellectual conversion's function of informing is in natural conversion.
