'실천인문학'과 결합된 인문교육의 성격변화와 대중인문교육의 새로운 맥락화

국문 초록

최근 인문교육은 그동안 자신의 존재적 텃밭이 되어왔던 제도권 안에서 기반이 흔들리는 위기를 맞고 있다. 이에 비해 학교 밖에서는 체제중심의 담론으로 존재하던 인문교육을 삶의 살아있는 맥락으로 복원시킴으로써 인간경험과 직접적으로 소통하며 성장할 수 있는 실천학문의 가능성을 탐색하고 있다. 현재의 인문교육이 직면하고 있는 위기와 기회는 제도권 교육의 한계를 넘어서는 평생교육의 맥락에서 포착되고 있다. 본 연구는 최근 비형식맥락을 통해 등장한 실천인문학은 인문학의 특성을 어떤 방식으로 재규정하고 있으며, 이 과정에서 대중성인인문교육의 역할은 무엇인지를 검토하고자 한다. 이를 위해 우선 대학 인문학자의 시각을 통해 드러난 대학기반 인문학과 인문교육의 특성을 정리하고, 이와 대비하여 실천인문학의 맥락과 특성은 무엇이며, 대중인문교육의 장과 어떻게 결합되어 있는지를 검토한다. 이를 위해 본 논문은 크게 네 부분으로 나누어진다. 첫 번째로 대학 강단인문학이 가지고 있었던 전문성 중심주의를 검토하고, 두 번째 부분에서는 이러한 강단인문학을 비판하며 등장한 실천인문학자들이란 과연 어떤 사람들이며, 이들의 활동과 담론을 재생산하는 방식은 어떤 특성을 가지는지에 대해 검토한다. 세 번째로 이들이 추구하는 ‘실천인문학’의 맥락과 특성은 무엇이며 그 실제 전개과정은 어떠했는지를 보고자 한다. 마지막으로 실천인문학의 장면 안에서 교육 프로그램이 조직화되는 방식을 통해 나타나는 학문과 교육의 교류과정, 즉 실천인문학과 대중인문교육이 서로 공생하는 과정을 조망한다.

영문 초록

This paper examines the mode of teaching experience of liberal arts such as philosophy, at the context of non-formal liberal education institutions. The paper especially focuses on the experiences of the instructors who are the member of the "practical" humanities, a newly emerging non-university humanity studies that are linked with the adult liberal education movement, especially practiced at the marginal areas, such as prison lectures, homeless college, or open programs of CSO(civil society organizations). Several findings worthy of paying attention are as follows: First, the "practical" humanity movement was, on the one hand, creating new ecology of popular adult liberal education that produced new patterns of value and methods of curriculum and provision, different from the traditional 'university-based' liberal arts and education; Second, the opportunities of popular adult liberal education, on the other hand, strengthened the academic excellency of the community of the "practical" humanity studies, in the sense that the lecturers found the mutual interdependency between "teaching" and "research" in the context of 'real atmosphere of the ordinary daily lives'; Third, the both 'practical humanity studies' and 'its allied open education movement' are successfully interlinked to make a mutually-reinforcing co-evolution, upon which new set of frameworks in the humanities and the liberal educations are developed.
