평생학습 관점에서의 한국 성인의 24시

국문 초록

이 연구는 우리나라 20세 이상 성인의 하루 24시간을 보내는 활동 시간 분석을 통하여 성인들의 생활 세계의 일반적 특성과 이러한 특성이 연령대별로 어떻게 달라지며, 성인들의 학습 활동과 어떤 관계를 갖는지를 실증적으로 규명하고자 착수되었다. 연구 결과, 첫째, 우리나라 성인들의 생활에서 학습 참여 여부와 정도 그리고 연령대에 따라 특징적인 생활 유형을 보이는 것을 확인할 수 있다. 20대 집단은 학습에 가장 많은 시간을 투자하는 반면 인과 가족생활이 비중이 낮은 생활 유형을 보였다. 70대 집단은 개인 유지와 여가활동이 중심이 되는 특징이 나타났다. 둘째, 연령에 따라 학습 참여율과 참여 시간에 차이가 나타났다. 20대 성인의 참여율이 28.3%였지만 70대 이상의 참여율은 1.4%에 불과한 것으로 나타나, 연령이 증가할수록 학습 참여율이 낮아지는 모습을 볼 수 있다. 셋째, 연령에 따라 참여율 뿐 아니라 학습 활동 역시 서로 다른 특징을 보였다. 20대 집단은 형식교육이 중심이 되는 학습활동을 하고 있다면, 50대, 40대 집단은 직장에서의 연수가 중심이 되는 학습활동을 하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 70대와 60대는 여가 관련 학습을 중심으로 학습하고 있음을 볼 수 있다.

영문 초록

Utilizing research data from a 2004 statistical analysis of collected 24-hour time-use surveys, this study is an investigation into the following first, how an adult, depending on life stages, spends his time during a 24-hour period, second, the relation between life stages and time spent studying, and third, how time spent studying affects the difference between amount of time spent working and amount of time spent in leisure activities. In fact, people who spent even at least one minute a day studying accounted for no more than 8.8% of the total survey response. Survey respondents who spent the most time on educational activities were in their 20s as opposed to the less than 10 minutes spent on average by respondents in their 40s. Although respondents in their 70s spent most of their time in leisure or self-sustaining activities, time spent learning was almost of their time in leisure or self-sustaining activities, time spent learning was almost never reported. In reviewing the findings of this study, it is imperative that preparations are made for the formation of a recurrent education system in order to increase the lifelong education participation rate and aid the Korean adult individual in achieving a study, work, leisure balance.
