대학의 특성 및 전공계열에 따른 등록금 수준 분석

국문 초록

이 연구는 우리나라 4년제 대학의 등록금 자료를 기초로 대학의 특성 및 전공계열에 따른 등록금 수준을 분석하고, 각 변인이 대학 등록금 수준을 얼마나 설명해주고 있는지를 살펴보았다. 분석 결과, (1)국공사립대학 모두에서 수도권 대학, 80년 이상의 역사를 가진 대학, 질적 수준이 높은 대학이 그렇지 않은 대학보다 등록금 수준이 높았으며, (2)대학의 규모, 공대 및 의대 설치 여부는 사립대학에서만 유의미한 집단 차를 보였다. (3)전공계열별 등록금은 의학, 예체능, 공학, 자연과학, 인문사회의 순으로 높았으며, 특히 인문사회 계열과 의학계열은 타 집단과 매우 뚜렷한 등록금 차를 나타내었다. (4)각 변인과 대학 등록금 수준과의 회귀분석 결과, 대학의 소재지와 전공계열은 국공사립대학 모두에서 등록금 수준을 설명해주는 핵심 요인으로 분석되었다. 이상의 분석 결과는 우리나라 대학 등록금 수준이 일부 변인에 의해서만 영향 받고 있음을 의미하는 것으로, 대학교육이 가져오는 혜택에 근거할 때, 대학 등록금이 더욱 차등화 되어야 함을 시사한다. 특히 사립대학보다는 국공립대학에서 이러한 노력이 더욱 시급하다 할 수 있다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to analyze how the characteristic of university and study field influence level of tuition. Result of study is as described below. First, in general, tuition level tended higher in university, greatly qualified, located in the metropolitan area, and with over eighty years history. Second, there was a significant difference in the tuition level among private universities by characteristics i.e. the no. of students and if there are the engineering and medical schools or not. Third, analysis on tuition difference by field of study showed that medical education cost the most and arts/athletes, engineering, natural science and liberal arts followed respectively. Above all, tuition difference was noticeable in both fields of medical and liberal arts. Last, multi-regression with variables used for this study and tuition level analyzed that the location and field of study were stronger influences on tuition level. These findings indicate that university tuition level in Korea has been influenced by certain variables. Considering benefits from university education, however, tuition needs to be graded more in the future. The matter seems to be more pressing among national and public university than among private school.
