국문 초록

  이 연구의 목적은 고등교육을 대학특성, 전공계열별로 구분하고 이들을 조합하여 고등교육 투자 수익률을 분석함으로써 고등교육과 노동시장에 대해 보다 구체적인 수준에서 정확한 경제적 효과 구조에 대한 정보를 도출해 내는 것이다. 이를 위하여 한국노동연구원의 한국노동패널조사(Korean Labor and Income Panel Study)의 1차년도(1998년)~8차년도(2005년) 자료를 토대로 Mincer의 소득함수모형(Human Capital Earning Function)을 활용하여 대학특성, 전공계열, 대학특성과 전공계열의 조합에 따른 수익률을 분석하였다. 그 결과, 지방사립대학이나 순위 30위권 밖 대학의 교육, 의약, 공학계열의 수익률이 서울소재대학, 지방국립대학이나 순위 1~30위 대학의 인문, 사회, 예체능계열 수익률보다 더 높았다. 이 연구는 학교급, 대학특성, 전공계열 등 각각에 대한 분석 수준을 넘어서 조합에 따른 분석을 최초로 시도함으로써 대학의 특성 효과를 추월하는 전공 효과를 실증적으로 입증함으로써 단순한 수익률 수치 산출을 넘어서는 우리 고등교육의 노동시장 효과에 대한 보다 구체적이고 의미 있는 사실을 발견하였다.

영문 초록

  The purpose of this article is to draw economic effect structure of higher education and labor market at the more concrete level through combining college characteristics and college major and analyzing return to higher education. Based on the Korean Labor and Income Panel Study(KLIPS) 1998-2005, the Mincer"s "Human Capital Earning Function (HCEF)" model is used for the analysis of the returns to higher education according to college characteristics, college major and combination of them.
  The major finding is that the returns to Education, Medical, and Engineering in local-private colleges, and off-ranking 30 colleges are higher than those of Humanities, Social Science and Art & Physical in Seoul located colleges, local-public colleges, or top 1~30 colleges.
  By analyzing the returns through combining college major and college characteristics as well as analyzing each return, this study provides more sufficient and concrete information on returns. The results from analyzing the returns by combining some factors proved economic effects of some majors" effects exceeding college quality effects. As a result, the findings are more concrete and meaningful facts about the effects on the labor market of higher education.
