국문 초록

  백제라는 나라를 누가 언제 만들었는지에 대해 오랫동안 치열한 논쟁이 이어졌지만 아직도 구체적인 연구결과를 얻지 못했다. 무엇보다 『삼국사기』 「백제본기」의 초기 기록을 바라보는 시각이 다르기 때문이다. 한쪽은 여전히 두터운 신뢰감을 표현하고, 한쪽은 불신의 그림자가 짙다. 그리고 국가의 개념을 정의하고 각종 사료에 적용하는 작업이 더디게 진행된 데다 자의적인 해석이 적지 않다는 점도 영향을 미쳤다. 새로운 연구방법론과 관점을 확보하지 못하고 인접학문의 이론과 연구성과를 나름대로 원용하는 데에만 관심을 기울인 점도 문제이다.
  『삼국사기』 「백제본기」에는 분명 그대로 믿기 어려운 기사들이 있다. 예를 들면, 시조 온조왕대에 이미 도읍을 옮기고, 영토를 확정했으며, 마한을 병탄하고, 部제도를 실시했다는 기록이다. 이들은 모두 후대의 사실을 잘못 소급한 기사인 듯하다. 고고학적 해석에 의거하면, 한강유역에서 국가 출현을 의미하는 유적ㆍ유물은 대개 2세기 이후로 편년된다. 아마도 낙랑군이 한강유역에서 정치세력이 성장하지 못하도록 회유와 억압을 적절히 구사했기 때문일 것이다.
  백제를 세운 사람들은 역시 부여ㆍ고구려 방면에서 남쪽으로 이주했을 개연성이 높다. 다만, 부여와 고구려 중에서 어느 쪽에 더 가까운가 하는 점이 문제인데, 부여와 백제의 연관성은 문헌자료에서 더욱 강조되며, 고구려와 백제의 연관성은 고고학 자료에서 특히 인상적이다. 백제의 종족ㆍ문화계통을 분명하게 가르기 위해서는 부여의 생활문화에 대한 이해가 깊어져야 한다. 그리고 무엇보다 문화의 속성에 대한 성찰이 필요하다.

영문 초록

  The issue of when and by whom the Baekje Kingdom was founded has been a hot issue among researchers but we do not have concrete thesis of it yet. Because different explanations depend on the different interpretations of the early records of the Baekje Annals (Baekjebongi) in the History of Three Kingdom (Samguksagi): some of scholars trust in the record as historical evidence, but others definitely have distrust in its authenticity. In addition to, the slow progress of the establishment of the methodology for the study of foundation of ancient countries and its application to the historical materials was the one of the reasons which made the study of the Baekje Kindgom difficult. As a result some part of the studies of the Baekje Kingdom actually lacks of scientific validity. Furthermore, the research community of the Three Kingdom period took the academic accomplishment of neighboring disciplines without any critical attitude.
  All the records of the Baekje Annals of the History of the Three Kingdom, in fact, does not describe historical events according to the accurate dates and years; for example, the record that the founder Onjo moved the capital to the area around Han River, extended its territory, annexed the territory of Mahan tribe to its own, and practiced the administrative system of local area called Bu(部) seems to have been retrospective to the early period. According to the archaeological proofs the foundation of a country around Han River area is presumed somewhere A.D 200s: the Chinese Commandery in Naknang seems to have played a role in suppressing any rise of power system in the area by varied means.
  It is highly probable that the main body of the foundation of Baekje Kingdom moved from the territory of Goguryeo and/or Buyeo, and the point here is the connection between them in terms of the tribal and cultural root and background. The close connection between the Baekje and Buyeo is emphasized in some of historical documents; on the other hand, archaeological evidence shows that Baekje and Goguryeo had more close connection. Therefore, in order to classify the tribal and cultural origin of Baekje in the relation with other tribal and cultural communities such as and Buyeo, we need to look into the details of the cultural life of Baekje Kingdom with deep understanding of the attribution to the culture.
