The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between mothers" prenatal environment, the level of stress during pregnancy, and children"s problem behaviors. Subjects of this study composed of 282 parents having preschool children(aged from 5 to 7-year-old) drawn from five preschools in Cheong-ju city. The pilot study was done to examine the applicability of survey instrument. Data were analyzed by SPSS 12.0 with the method of frequency, percentage, t-test, F-test and Tukey post-hoc test.
The results of this study were as follows: 1. There were statistically significant differences in children"s problem behaviors according to prenatal environment. Children that their mothers gave birth to the baby in the latter half of the twenties and over had more withdrawal behaviors. Children who had mothers with job during pregnancy had more aggressive than children who had mothers without job. Also, children who their mothers drunk during pregnancy had more anxiety, immature, and inattention problem behaviors than children who their mothers did not drink alcohols. Mothers" unbalanced diet during pregnancy were associated with children"s immature problem behaviors. Mothers" unwanted pregnancy was associated with children"s withdrawal problem behaviors. Psychological difficulties during pregnancy were associated with children"s immature, disobedient, and withdrawal problem behaviors. When mothers felt uncomfortable during pregnancy, their children had all kinds of problem behaviors such as aggressive, anxiety, immature, disobedient, inattention, and withdrawal behaviors. 2.
