‘비전통적 학습자’의 고등교육기회 분석 - 대학입학전형제도를 중심으로

국문 초록

  이 연구는 비전통적 학습자(나이 든 학습자)를 대상으로 하는 입학전형제도를 실시하여 그들에게 고등교육기회를 부여하고 있는 대학의 제도적 특성을 분석하는 것이다. 비전통적 학습자들에게 고등교육에 대한 참여와 접근을 확대하는 것은 전통적으로 젊은 학생들을 대상으로 교육하는 곳으로 인식되었던 대학이 평생교육체제로 변모하고 있음을 의미한다. 그러나 모든 대학이 비전통적 학습자들에게 문호를 개방하는 것은 아니다. 따라서 어떤 대학이 개방적 평생교육체제로의 변화에 친화적인지를 분석하는 것은 평생학습과 관련하여 고등교육의 성격 변화를 가늠할 수 있는 중요한 잣대라고 할 수 있다. 여기에서는 2008학년도 입학에서 비전통적 학습자(나이 든 학습자)를 선발하는 대학의 제도적 특성을 밝히기 위하여 대학의 설립별, 소재지, 규모, 신입생 충원율, 대학서열 등과의 관계를 분석하였다. 분석결과 대학서열이 낮은 대학이 비전통적 학습자 모집에 가장 적극적인 것으로 나타났다. 이는 비전통적 학습자의 고등교육 참여가 대학의 위계적 계층화와 밀접하게 관련되어 있음을 암시하는 것이다.

영문 초록

  In this paper, we analyze the institutional characteristics of universities that provide an access to higher education for non-traditional learners going on Korean higher education. Non-traditional learners are defined as delayed learners like the mature and adult learners. Traditionally, non-traditional learners were excluded in higher education. The university was the learning place for the elite and the young students. University extension program, not degree courses, was only for adult learners as a peripheral student. However, the government"s higher education policy for lifelong education is to attract increasing numbers of non-traditional learners to higher education.
  Research result, the universities which provide a higher educational opportunity to the non-traditional learners were located from a university rank mainly in the low-rank. The private university, the non-core (Seoul) area university, and the low-level university were more positive in widening of the higher education opportunity for mature learners. The increase of non-traditional students is a signal that the openness of higher education has more positive effect on the public mission of higher education.
