영문 초록

  Objectives of this study were to search the olfactory threshold of the Korean elderly and to study on the relationship between the olfactory threshold and the cognition function. A total 75 subjects older than 65 in Daejeon city were surveyed. The olfactory threshold of the elderly was measured by T&T olfactometer and the cognitive function was evaluated using MMSE-K, the Korean version of Mini-Mental State Examination. The cognition function score of subjects who had severely impaired olfactory function was significantly lower than the others groups(impaired, slightly impaired, and normal subjects). In conclusion, the olfactory threshold of the elderly can be the estimator of cognitive function in severly impaired aged people. In addition, the wild-range scale studies on the relationship between the olfactory threshold and the cognition function are needed.
