영문 초록

  This paper is a study of Julian Barnes"s Flaubert"s Parrot which I will focus on the possibility of a seize of the past objectively. These are centered around the question proposed so many times in the novel "How do we seize the past?" Can we seize the past? In the novel, Barnes proposes the narrator"s self and his history through the narrator"s searching of Flaubert"s real Parrot.   In this novel, Barnes explores many ideas about the nature of historical writing such as the difficulty of collecting and interpreting of the historical facts.   To deal with the historical facts, the plot interweaves two layers, one is Flaubert and the other is narrator and his wife.   To make history, narrator will choose the historical facts according to his presumption(guess). And also, so many presumption, this will be identified with a history and fiction.
