일치와 허사구문의 통사적 분석

영문 초록

  The purpose of this study is to specify the existential expletive there construction that shows the systematic relation according to Agree (Chomsky, 1998, 1999, 2001). As a departure for the discussion, Chomsky"s(1981, 1986, 1991) Case transmission analysis, Chomsky"s(1993) greed analysis, Lasnik"s(1995) englightened self-interest analysis with partitive Case theory and Chomsky"s(1995) pure expletive analysis are reviewed. And then, the systematic relation of expletive there construction is specified on the basis of Chomsky"s(1998, 1999, 2001) Agree. And constraints related to the predicate and associate NP and locality are discussed to prevent over-generating ungrammatical sentences.
  Chomsky"s(1981, 1986, 1991) Case transmission analysis called LF replacement with Chain-formation theory is not sufficient to determine grammaticality. Neither is Chomsky"s(1993) greed analysis based on the Case transmission if the expletive Case has a spec-head agreement with I(T) and does not have a checking relation with an associate NP. Lasnik"s(1995) enlightened self-interest analysis with partitive Case theory suggests null hypothesis. Chomsky"s(1995) pure expletive analysis cannot help separating Case away from <EPP>.
  Accordingly, I specify the existential expletive there construction that shows a systematic relation according to Agree (Chomsky 1998, 1999, 2001). The goal "there" which has defective uninterpretable [person] feature cannot delete the probe T that has complete uninterpretable φ-feature, so the T has the systematic relation with the associate NP which has complete φ-feature and uninterpretable Case.
  Constraints related to the predicates and associate NP and locality are discussed. Unaccusative and passivized verbs are the predicate constraint. The associate NP is rooted on the definiteness effect. The locality supported by defective intervention constraint should be considered in cyclicity. Embedded complete φ-feature and uninterpretable expletive "there" serve as the defective intervention constraint.
