국문 초록

많은 선행연구들은 기업이 맺고 있는 전략적 네크워크의 특성이 기업성과에 중요한 영향을 미칠 것이라는 점을 주장하여 왔다. 네트워크의 다양한 특성은 특히 벤처기업의 성과에 중요한 영향을 미칠 것으로 기대된다. 벤처기업의 특성상 벤처기업들은 핵심자원인 기술이나 지식 이외의 다른 사업기반이 충분히 구축되어 있지 못하며 따라서 기술정보나 생산, 자본, 제품 등과 같은 다양한 자원에의 접근을 절실히 필요로 하기 때문이다. 본 연구는 네크워크의 크기, 다양성, 강도, 신뢰성 등과 같은 네트워크의 주요한 특징이 벤처기업의 경영성과에 미치는 영향을 실증적으로 검증하는 것을 목적으로 하고 있다. 연구의 표본은 벤처기업 육성에 관한 특별조치법에 의거해 인증을 받은 57개 벤처기업이다. 분석결과 연혁과 자본금, 종업원의 수, 그리고 업종을 통제 한 후에도 네크워크의 특성이 경영성과에 중요한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 특히 네크워크의 크기가 다른 특성 변수들보다 경영성과를 설명하는 데 있어서 훨씬 더 중요한 영향을 미치고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 이와 동시에 네크워크의 다양성과 신뢰성 역시 벤처기업의 경영성과에 의미있는 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 그러나 접촉빈도로 측정한 네크워크의 강도는 통계적으로 의미있는 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 벤처기업들에게 있어 일차적으로는 부족한 자원을 확보할 수 있는 많은 네크워크를 형성하는 것이 중요하며 이와 동시에 참여하고 있는 네크워크를 다양화하는 한편 신뢰성이 높은 네트워크에 참여하는 것이 중요하다는 시사점을 주고 있다.

영문 초록

Many authors assert that characteristics of network exert an important influence on the firm performance. It is very likely that they play a particularly important role on the performance of venture firms in that the venture firms are badly in need for the resources such as production, marketing or capital, and that the network can provide these resources. The size of network is, among others, the most important characteristics assumed by many researchers to influence the firm performance. The diversity, intensity or reliability of network can play also important role in determining the performance of ventures. In contrast to mono-type network, diverse networks could offer more chance to the ventures diverse resources they are looking for. And reliability of network could facilitate the communication and commitment among members firms. The results of empirical analyses show that characteristics of network determine the performance of ventures after controlling the influence of history, capital and number of employees. In particular, the size of network explains a large part of firm performance. Not only the size but the qualitative characteristics such as diversity or reliability of network influence significantly the firm performance. The intensity of network, however, is not related significantly to the performance of ventures. The results imply strongly that it is wise for the ventures to create or participate in as many networks as possible, and in more diverse and reliable networks. And some limits and future direction of research are presented at the end.
