국문 초록

이 연구는 지난 약 30년 동안에 걸쳐 세계 여러 나라의 초·중등 정보과학교과 및 관련 정책의 제도화와 확산 과정을 점검해 봄으로써 세계정치문화체제(world polity)의 제도적 구성물로서의 교육과정의 성격을 보다 심층적으로 이해하고자 하였다. 세계 130여개의 다양한 국가들로부터 얻어진 광범위한 비교교육 자료를 분석한 결과에 따르면, 초·중등 교육기관의 정보과학교과목 도입은 개별국가의 특수한 사회경제적 조건보다는 세계적 차원의 문화 및 교육 관련 담론의 확산과 더불어 제도화되고 있음을 시사하고 있다. 이러한 결과는 세계 여러 나라의 정보과학교육이 각 국가의 구체적 필요에 바탕을 둔 기능적 요구의 충족수단이라기보다는 세계 차원의 문화를 반영하는 제도적 구성물로서 이해될 수 있음을 시사하고 있다.

영문 초록

The primary purpose of this study is to examine the process of the global institutionalization of information science education as a legitimate curricular content and as an important national education policy agenda. An extensive analysis of the relevant cross-national data suggests that information science education is incorporated in the school curricula and becomes an important national education policy agenda quite independent of the diverse socioeconomic characteristics of individual nation-states. The paper argues that the institutionalization of information science education is a worldwide phenomenon legitimated in the transnational cultural environments reflecting universalistic educational rationales and ideologies such as the “scientization of society.” Thus, the incorporation of information science education in the school curricula and in the national education policy issues is more or less a taken-for-granted rational choice of major social actors such as nation-states, schools, and education-related organizations and professionals.
