영문 초록

Due to taxology, book cover design is divided into two sections: one is intellectual design and the other is aesthetic design. Intellectual designer takes charge of what you want to put in the book cover such as author's name, book title, publishing company's name, publisher's name, logotype of the publishing company, date of issue, explanatory note, introduction of author, recommendation. Aesthetic designer is in charge of make-up the space of book cover. Make-up the space signify layout the cover page with typeface of printing type(font shape), font color, space between lines, letter space, illustration, photograph. In this study, examined the book cover design of the 66 Korean Books which was published from 1970 to 2002. In case of layout, the position of the book title is the top side and trend of inserting an explanatory note to the back cover has been increasing every ten years. Illustration is much more than photograph for the image in front cover for the whole 33 years period. Nineteen seventies and Nineteen eighties, the style of typesetting of book title is set up to type with Han-geul(Korean characters) and Chinese characters. But from the Nineteen nineties typesetting Han-geul exclusively is superior In numbers compare to typesetting with Han-geul and Chinese characters at the book cover. It was unexpected result that some Korean readers still prefer typesetting of book title vertically though they prefer doing typesetting the text of a book horizontally.
