국문 초록

이 연구의 목적은 기존의 희귀분석모형의 한계를 넘어서 논리적으로 보다 타당한 다층모형의 이론적 배경과 논리를 탐색하고 이를 실제 데이터에 적용하여 대학교육의 효과를 분석하는 것이다. 이 연구의 목적을 위해 자료수집은 인문사회계에서 경영학과와 이학계에서 물리학과, 그리고 공학계에서 전자공학과가 개설된 58개교의 학생수 1,106명을 표본으로 하여 2002년 9월 중에 실시하였다. 분석방법으로는 측정자료의 다수준 속성을 고려한 위계적선형모형(HLM)을 적용하여 대학교육의 성과에 미치는 학생수준과 기관수준의 효과는 어느 정도이며, 각각이 차지하는 변량은 어느 정도인가, 각 수준별 독립변인의 영향력은 어느 정도인가를 탐구하였다 분석 결과, 대학교육의 효과성 관련 변인 중 학생의 성과에 가장 큰 영향을 미치는 변인은 학생수준 독립변인인 교육의 과정 변인으로 확인되었으며, 교육의 과정 변인 중에서도 학생노력의 질이 가장 영향력이 큰 것으로 나타났다. 이 결과는 학생이 대학에 다니면서 다양한 경험과 적극적인 학문적 참여 활동을 하도록 교육적인 관심과 노력을 학교차원에서 기울여야 할 것을 시사한다.

영문 초록

The fundamental concerns of the study are to identify the logic of Hierarchical Linear Model and to analyze the effects of university education on students. That is, the study focuses on applying logically valid measurement model(Hierachicai Linear Model) to elaborately measure and analyze effectiveness of university education. The purposes of this study are as follows: 1. Identification of the logic of Hierarchical Linear Model 2. Measurement and analysis of university education effectiveness The population for the study was the total 1,106 students in a national wide that belongs to three kinds of academic department, which are business administration, computer science, physics. Data was collected using three instruments. The first tool was educational indicators questionaire of four-year college and university, developed by Korean Council for University Education to assess university in 2002. The second instrument was specifically designed for this study and gathered information on precollege characterisstics such as Students' demographic, IQ, SES. The third instrument called Korean college student experiences questionaire(KCSEQ) was developed to measure the degree of students' involvement in college. The conclusions based upon the results are summarized as follows: First, process variables are very important as mediating variables. Students' college experience made statistically significant contributions to enhancement of quality of student outcomes. Second, quality of student outcome is primarily determined by process variables such as student effort(involvement), quality of teaching, and psycho-sociological climate.
