국문 초록

과거에는 이중배당이 존재하는 것을 당연하게 여겼으나 Bovenberg & Mooij (1994)로부터 시작하여 이중배당이 존재하지 않는다는 주장이 제기되었다. 그러다가 2000년대에 이르러 다시 이중배당이 존재할 수도 있다는 주장이 제기되어 이 문제는 다시 한번 주목을 받는다. 이렇게 서로 다른 결과를 얻게 되는 근본적인 이유가 있다. 그 이유는 이중배당의 존재를 부정한 Bovenberg & Mooij의 모형은 아주 단순한 모형인데 이후의 연구들이 대부분 이 모형의 가정에 근거하고 있으며 또한 최근의 연구들은 이 가정을 비판하는 데에서 출발하고 있기 때문이다. 이와 관련하여 본 논문은 Bovenberg & Mooij 모형의 가정들을 일일이 검토하고 있다. 그리하여 이러한 가정들이 보다 현실적으로 바뀌었을 경우들에 대해 살펴보고 있다. 그 결과 일부는 이중배당이 없다는 주장을 더욱 강하게 뒷받침하지만 다른 일부는 오히려 이중 배당이 존재할 수 있음을 뒷받침한다는 것을 보여주고 있다. 이러한 측면에서 볼 때 이중배당의 존재 여부는 일률적으로 말할 수 있다기보다는 모형의 가정에 따라 달라진다고 보는 것이 타당하다.

영문 초록

In the past the existence of the double dividend was taken for granted. It has been asserted from Bovenberg and Mooij (1994), however, that the double dividend does not exist. Attention is paid again on this issue because it is argued again from 2000 that the double dividend might exist. The basic reason why different results are obtained is because even though Bovenberg and Mooij's model is very simple the research thereafter is based on the assumptions of their model and the recent research starts from criticism of its assumptions. In this context this paper reviews in detail the assumptions of their model. It shows that, among realistic modifications of their assumptions, some back up the arguments that the double dividend does not exist and the others back up the arguments that the double dividend might exist. In this context we can conclude the existence of the double dividend can not be taken for granted but it depends on the assumptions of the model.
