영문 초록

The prime purpose of this paper is to structure a framework of analyzing economic cooperation in the Northeast Asian Region and indentify prevailing issues. It does not intend to give a solution formula for a successful regional cooperation in the region. Following the introduction and background, in this paper, the basis and characteristics of economic cooperation in the region are reviewed. And then the prospect of the cooperation is diagonized in conjunction with a large cooperation scheme, that is Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation. Korea's position, interest and the policy direction regarding the cooperation are briefly illustrated as well. Five sectoral issues are discussed. Among those, intra-regional foreign direct investment, regional development cooperation, environmental cooperation in the region, the science and technology cooperation, and the cooperation among municipal / provincial governments are inculded. Finally all the discussions and analysis are summarized and the conclusion is given.
