국문 초록

기존의 범주화 모형에서는 피험자가 실험자에 의해 부여된 속성들을 어떻게 지각하여 이러한 지각의 결과가 범주화에 어떤 영향을 미치는지를 밝히면 개념구조가 이해될 수 있다고 보았다. 그러나 피험자의 사전지식이 범주화에 영향을 미친다는 증거들이 발견되면서 범주에 의미를 부여하는 제약들이 무엇인지에 대한 관심이 증가하고 있다. 이 연구는 개념적 응집성이 선형적 분리가능성이나 상관적 구조에 의해서는 설명되기 어려움을 지적하고 그 대안으로 이론·근거 접근방법을 개관하였다. 그러나 이론·근거 접근방법은 개념상의 모호성으로 인해 개념적 응집성을 설명하기 어렵다는 비판을 받고 있다. 이 연구는 지각적 유사성이나 기능적 속성과 같이 지각체계와 인지체계 간의 상호작용에 영향을 미치는 제약들을 검토함으로써 이론·근거 접근방법을 구체화하려고 시도하였다.

영문 초록

In this Article we reviewed the categorization models and criticized their constraints. Most of categorization models have attempted to explain conceptual coherence and to understand conceptual structures on the basis of stimulus similarity, linear seperability, or feature correlation structures. We discussed the several constraints they have. And recent experimental evidences that subject's prior knowledge influence on categorization brought about new interest on constraints imposed on category learning tasks. As an alternative explaination, We proposed the theory-based approach on categorization which emphasize the hierachical organization among features and transformation on the basis of the prior knowledge. And we also discussed the problems including perceptual similarity, functional properties, and part-whole relations which is embedded in the theory-based approach. More accurate explanations on conceptual coherence will be possible if the effect of prior knowledge and selective attention on perceptual similarity become clear.
