영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to report what has been performed as English Ability Tests at some Korean elementary schools. To this end, this study conducted survey analyses of teachers and students from three major sections: metropolitan areas, cities and country side. The study also investigated 6 kinds of English Ability Test(6th grade) to analyze their degree of accordance to the national curriculum. The study also analyzed internal consistency of questions and conducted correlation analysis, and analyzed the validity of each question appeared on these tests. The major findings of this study are as follows. The assessment questions are mainly focused on spoken language with widely different testing types, testing device and support system depending on the regions. Also, the analysis result of communicative function showed that the area of 'actual information exchange' was the most frequent, and the subject matter analysis showed that the .subject related to interpersonal relations had the highest proportion. The internal reliability of questions was high, and the correlation between the English ability test result and the performative assessment result was statistically significant. Also, according to the validity analysis, the items are within acceptable validity range.
