서울 중‧고등학생의 시민의식 함양에 미치는 영향 요인 탐색

국문 초록

본 연구는 최근 증가한 사회적 혐오 및 개인주의와 같은 윤리적 문제에 대응하여, 미래 사회의 주체인 청소년들의 시민의식 함양에 영향을 미치는 학생 및 학교수준 요인을 종단적으로 탐색하였다. 2021년과 2022년에 수집된 『서울학생종단연구 2020』데이터를 활용하였으며, 다층성장모형을 적용하여 서울시 중고등학생의 시민의식에 초기값 및 향상도에 영향을 미치는 요인을 분석하였다. 선행연구를 바탕으로 학생수준 변인에는 성별, 사회경제적 지위(SES), 봉사활동 경험, 독서량, 교우관계 등이, 학교수준에는 학교의 설립유형, 혁신학교 여부, 지역사회 유관기관 연계 프로그램 여부 등이 고려되었다. 분석결과, 학생들의 봉사활동, 독서량, 동아리 활동, 진로성숙도, 협업, 정서적 공감 등이 시민의식에 긍정적인 영향을 미침을 확인하였으며, 학교수준에서는 혁신학교 여부, 학생복지・교육격차 세출 금액 지역연계 프로그램이 유의한 영향을 미치고 있었다. 구체적으로 혁신학교 중학생이 일반학교 학생보다 시민의식 초기값이 더 높게 나타났다. 학생복지·교육격차 세출 금액은 중학교급에서 향상도에 긍정적 영향을 미쳤고, 지역연계 프로그램은 고등학교급의 향상도에 정적 영향을 미치고 있었다. 위와 같은 결과를 토대로 봉사활동 촉진, 디지털 교육 강화, 학생복지 및 지역사회 연계 프로그램 확대 등의 정책적 시사점을 제안하였다.

영문 초록

This study systematically investigated the longitudinal exploration of student and school-level factors influencing the development of civic consciousness among adolescents. These adolescents, who are the future constituents of society, are responding to recent ethical challenges such as the growing social hatred and individualism. Using data collected from the "Seoul Education Longitudinal Study 2020" in 2021 and 2022, the analysis focused on identifying the factors that impact the initial values and progression of civic consciousness among middle and high school students in Seoul. Student-level variables considered included gender, socioeconomic status (SES), volunteering experience, reading habits, peer relationships, and more, while school-level variables encompassed factors like school type, innovation school status, and the existence of community collaboration programs. The results demonstrated that student activities such as volunteering, reading, club participation, career maturity, collaboration, and emotional empathy exerted positive influences on civic consciousness. At the school level, the presence of innovation schools, student welfare education gap budgets, and community collaboration programs significantly affected civic consciousness. Specifically, middle school students in innovation schools showed higher initial levels of civic consciousness, and student welfare education gap budgets positively impacted civic consciousness growth in middle school, while community collaboration programs had a consistent effect on civic consciousness growth in high school. Based on these findings, policy recommendations were suggested, including the promotion of volunteering activities, enhancement of digital education, and the expansion of student welfare and community collaboration programs.
