대학생 중도탈락에 영향을 주는 고등교육기관 요인 분석

국문 초록

본 연구는 대학생의 중도탈락에 유의한 영향을 주는 고등교육 기관 관련 요인들을 파악하고자 하였다. 이를 위하여 교육부와 한국대학교육협의회에서 운영 중인 대학알리미 사이트를 통해 연구 시점을 기준으로 가장 최근 자료인 2022년 자료를 수집한 후, 종속변수를 ‘중도탈락비율’로 하고 7개의 독립변수(평균등록금, 재학생 1인당 장학금, 대학입학 경쟁률, 전임교원 1인당 학생 수, 재학생 기준 교지확보율, 평균졸업학점(백분율), 취업률)를 투입하여 2차에 걸쳐 다중회귀분석을 실시하였다. 1차 분석은 연구에 선택된 219개의 대학 전체와 이를 설립구분(국･공립, 사립)과 지역(수도권, 비수도권)으로 분류한 후 시행하였으며, 2차 분석은 설립구분과 지역을 교차로 하여 4가지 사례로 재분류하여 실시되었다. 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 1차 분석에서 국･공립, 2차 분석에서 수도권 국･공립으로 분류된 학교의 대학생 중도탈락률에 유의한 영향을 미치는 요인은 ‘평균졸업학점(-)’이 유일한 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 1차 분석에서 국･공립, 2차 분석에서 수도권 국･공립으로 분류된 학교의 다중회귀분석 결과를 제외한 모든 분석에서 ‘경쟁률’과 ‘교지확보율’이 대학생의 중도탈락률에 유의한 영향을 미치는 요인으로 나타났다. 셋째, 수도권 사립대학교의 경우에는 ‘재학생 1인당 장학금’이 학생의 중도탈락률에 영향을 미치는 부적인 요인으로 확인되었다. 넷째, 변수 중 ‘전임교원 1인당 학생 수’와 ‘취업률’은 1, 2차에 걸쳐 진행된 9번의 분석에서 어느 경우에도 통계적으로 유의한 영향을 보이지 않았다. 본 연구결과에 대한 논의와 대학생 중도탈락에 대한 향후 연구에 대한 제언이 결론에 제시되었다.

영문 초록

This study aims to identify variables related to higher education institutions that significantly affect the dropout rate in college students. To this end, 2022 data was collected from the college alert site operated by the Ministry of Education and the Korea Council for Higher Education, and two waves of multiple regression analyses were collected using the dependent variable “dropout rate” and seven independent variables (average tuition, scholarships per student, competition rate, number of students per full-time faculty member, secured teaching position, grade point average (percentage), and employment rate). The first analysis was conducted on all 219 universities selected for the study, categorized by institutional type (public, private) and region (metropolitan, non-metropolitan), and the second analysis was conducted by crossing institutional type and region, and reclassifying them into four categories. The findings are as follows. First, “grade point average (-)” was the only variable that significantly affected the dropout rate in college students in schools classified as public in the first analysis and those classified as public in the metropolitan area in the second analysis. Second, “competition rate” and “secured school site” were the variables that affected the dropout rate in college students in all analyses except in the case of public universities. Third, “scholarship per student” was found to be a negative factor related to the dropout rate in the case of private universities in the metropolitan area. Fourth, the variables “number of students per full-time faculty member” and “employment rate” did not show any statistical effect in this study. Discussion of the findings and suggestions for future research on college student dropout are presented in the conclusion.
