어린이의 웰빙과 사회정서발달을 위한 전쟁기념관 어린이박물관 전시 사례 연구

국문 초록

많은 사람들은 박물관에서의 경험이 의미 있었다고 회상한다. 특히 어린이박물관에서의 경험은 더 큰 행복감, 풍요로운 삶, 그리고 웰빙과 연관되어 있다고 말한다. 어린이박물관 경험에서 오는 행복감, 만족감은 정확히 어디에서 비롯되었는지 심리학적이나 교육학적으로 심도 있는 논의는 진행된 적이 없었다. 최근 어린이들의 행복(주관적 웰빙)은 물론 긍정적 정서 및 사회적 능력을 향상시키기 위한 사회정서학습의 중요성이 높아지고 있으며, 이러한 사회정서학습은 어린이박물관에도 적용되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 사회정서학습을 어린이박물관에 적용시킨다면 어린이들의 개인과 사회적 웰빙, 그리고 사회정서발달에 긍정적인 영향을 미칠 것으로 기대하고 사회정서학습의 프레임워크를 적용한 전쟁기념관 어린이박물관 전시 사례와 자녀와 전시를 관람한 부모의 경험에 대한 의미를 살펴보는데 목적이 있었다. 본 연구를 위해 전쟁기념관 어린이박물관 전시를 관람한 부모 5명을 대상으로 심층 인터뷰를 진행했고 인터뷰 분석 결과, 부모는 어린이박물관에서 평소에는 다루지 않았던 사회 문제에 대해 자녀와 함께 이해하고, 대화하며, 역사적으로 공감하고, 정서적으로 지지해준 경험이 의미 있었다고 여겼으며, 특히 자녀와 함께한 정서적 공감을 통해 전쟁에 대한 관심이 높아졌다고 말했다. 이 연구는 5명의 관람객 인터뷰를 해석적 분석을 통해 정리한 결과로 일반화하거나, 사회정서적 경험이 심층적으로 어떻게 발현되었고 무엇과 연관이 있는지 확인하기에는 한계가 있었다. 하지만 어린이박물관에서의 경험이 왜 의미 있게 느껴졌는지 웰빙과 사회정서발달 측면에서 확인해 볼 수 있었고, 사회정서학습이 어린이박물관에서 어떻게 접목되어 어떤 효과를 얻을 수 있을지에 대한 가능성을 확인했다. 그리고 특히 어린이박물관에서 부모와 함께 역사와 사회문제에 대해 대화하며 공감하고 문제를 해결할 수 있는 방법을 고민하는 역사적 공감의 과정은 어린이들의 사회적 관심도 높일 수 있다는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 앞으로도 어린이들의 웰빙을 위해 노력하며 긍정적인 정서와 사회적 관계를 형성할 수 있도록 지속적으로 관람객과 사회 문제에 대해 대화하며 공감할 수 있는 어린이박물관이 되도록 노력해야할 것이다.

영문 초록

Many people recall meaningful experiences from museums, with experiences in Children's Museums being particularly associated with greater happiness, enriched lives, and an overall sense of well-being. However, there has been a lack of in-depth psychological or educational discussion about where the happiness and satisfaction rooted on experiencing Children's Museums exactly emanate from. Recently, the importance of children's happiness (subjective well-being), positive emotions, and social skills enhancement through social emotional learning has gained prominence. This social emotional learning is also currently being applied in Children's Museums. This study aims to explore the potential positive impact of applying social emotional learning in Children's Museums on individual and social well-being, as well as the social emotional development of children. The study focuses on examining cases from a Children's Museum, particularly the War Memorial of Korea Exhibition, applying the framework of social emotional learning, and investigating the significance of experiences for both children and parents who visited the exhibits together. For this purpose, in-depth interviews were conducted with five parents who visited Children's Museum, the War Memorial of Korea Exhibition. The analysis of these interviews revealed that parents considered their experience as meaningful, as it allowed them to engage with their children in understanding and discussing social issues that they wouldn't typically address. Moreover, the process of historical empathy, where parents empathized with historical events and societal issues together with their children, fostering emotional connections and increasing interest in war-related topics, by emotionally bonding with their children. It is important to note that while the results of this study were derived from the analysis of interviews with five participants and might have limitations in generalizability or in-depth exploration of social emotional experiences, the study still sheds light on why experiences in children's museums were perceived as meaningful from a well-being and social emotional development perspective. The study also highlights the potential for social emotional learning to be integrated into Children's Museums, demonstrating how this could yield positive effects. Notably, the process of historical empathy involving parents engaging in conversations about history and societal issues, contemplating solutions, could contribute to enhancing children's social interest and fostering positive social relationships. Looking ahead, it is essential to continue efforts towards children's well-being by creating Children's Museums that facilitate positive emotions and social relationships that maintain ongoing dialogues and empathy about social issues with visitors.
