양웅揚雄의 도통의식과 제자諸子 비판

국문 초록

양웅(揚雄)은 서한(西漢) 말 신학화(神學化)로 빠지는 경학의 폐단이라는 시대적 위기에 마주한 학자로, 유가 도통 의식을 제고하여 도통을 계승하고자 자처하며 그 임무를 담당한 인물이다. 양웅은 한유에 의해 그 사상적 의의가 평가되었는데, 그의 사상 철학의 핵심은 맹자를 존숭하고 공자의 뜻을 오롯하게 이어가는 것에 있다. 그는 맹자가 이단을 배격하고 유가 도를 지켜나가는 사상적 견고함을 본받아 제자(諸子)들의 사상을 조목조목 비판적으로 검토함으로써 유가 도의 계승 여부를 평가한다. 그리고 이 평가의 지표를 공자가 구축하고 건립한 유가 정통의 ‘도’에 두고 유가의 도통 의식의 핵심에 공자의 도를 확고히 함으로써 자신만의 도통 의식을 표명한다.

영문 초록

Yáng Xióng, a scholar who met the crisis of the times, the vice that the study of Confucian classics was falling into the study of theologies late in the era of Xī Hàn, took the task of enhancing the consciousness of the Confucian truth inheritance posing himself as the one who should inherit the Confucian truth. The meaning of Yáng Xióng’s ideology was estimated by Hán Yù, who thought that the essence of Yáng Xióng’s ideological philosophy was to respect Mencius and inherit Confucius’ will as it was. Following Mencius who was ideologically solid looking after the Confucian truth against heresy, he critically looked into his disciples’ thoughts in detail whether they were succeeding the Confucian truth. Putting such standard of looking into his disciples’ thoughts on the authentic Confucian ‘truth’ that Confucius established and built, furthermore, he defined that the essence of the consciousness of Confucian truth inheritance was the Confucius’ truth to express his own consciousness of Confucian truth inheritance.
