분단·다문화 시대 학교의 현황과 역할: 탈북학생 재학 학교를 중심으로

국문 초록

본 연구는 탈북학생 재학 학교를 통해 오늘날 학교가 마주하고 있는 문제들을 분석하고, 분단·다문화 시대에 필요한 학교의 역할을 실천적인 측면에서 재의미화하고자 하였다. 현재 한국 사회는 이주민의 증가와 함께 학교 구성원의 문화적 다양성 또한 크게 증가하면서 학교에 대한 요구도 변화하고 있다. 특히 탈북학생 재학 학교는 우리 사회 분단의 역사와 다문화사회로의 이행이 교차하는 지점에서 학교 내외의 변화와 요구를 직접적으로 마주하며 그에 대응하고 있다. 8개교의 탈북학생 재학 학교에 근무하고 있는 교사 5명과 통일전담교육사 5명과의 집단 토의와 개별 면접을 통해 학교의 현황과 역할을 살펴본 결과, 탈북학생 재학 학교에서는 교과교육, 학생지도, 학교라는 범위를 넘어 교육 영역을 확장하고 있음을 확인할 수 있었다. 학생들의 관계 형성을 지원하고, 학부모 및 가정과의 연계와 참여를 증진하며, 지역사회와의 연결성을 강화하는 다양한 역할을 수행하고 있는 것이다. 이러한 학교의 변화와 확대된 역할에 대한 이해를 통해 분단·다문화 시대를 살아가는 우리에게 필요한 교육의 모습은 무엇인지 확인하고 준비할 것을 제안한다.

영문 초록

This study analyzed the problems facing schools today through the schools with North Korean migrant students and attempted to re-signifying the role of schools needed in the nationally divided-multicultural society. Along with the increase in the number of migrants in South Korea, the cultural diversity of school members has also greatly increased, so the demand for schools has changed. In particular, the schools with North Korean migrant students are responding directly to changes and demands around the school at a time when the history of the division and the transition to a multicultural society intersect. Through group discussions and individual interviews with five teachers and five North Korean migrant teachers working at the schools, it was found that schools have expanded the scope of education beyond the curriculum, student guidance, and school institution. Schools support students to form a relationship, promote parents’ educational participation, and strengthen connectivity with the community. This study suggests that we should identify and prepare education needed in the nationally divided-multicultural society through an understanding of changes in schools and their expanded roles.
