우리나라와 영어권의 점자 규정 발달 고찰

국문 초록

연구 목적: 이 연구는 점자 규정이 우리나라와 영어권에서 어떻게 발달했는지를 파악하여 우리나라 점자 규정 발전에 시사점을 반영하는 데 목적을 두었다. 연구 방법: 영어권 점자 규정은 ICEB와 BANA, 우리나라 점자 규정은 국립국어원 자료 등을 분석하였다. 점자 규정 발달 내용은 현행 점자 규정을 소개하고 발달 과정을 도표로 나타냈으며, 위원회의 임무도 포함하였다. 연구 결과: 점자 규정을 비교한 결과, ICEB는 UEB에 따른 『Braille Format』 개정판의 성과를 이뤄냈으며, 우리나라도 한글과 교과목 등에서 개정이 이루어지고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 결론: ICEB의 역할을 통해 지속적으로 영어권 나라에 UEB를 소개하고 교육하는 역할을 하고 있다는 점에서 시사점을 얻을 수 있었다. 우리나라도 한국 점자 규정 이외에 그림이나 표 등의 여러 형식을 종합적으로 다루는 ‘점자 형식’이 개발될 필요가 있다.

영문 초록

Purpose: This study aims to find implications for developing braille codes for Korea by understanding the development of braille codes in English-speaking countries. Methods: This study explored the braille codes used among English-speaking countries by analyzing documents from the International Council on English Braille(ICEB) and the Braille Authority of North America(BANA). For Korea, the study analyzed the braille codes from the National Institute of Korean Language. This study summarized current braille codes and visualized their development processes. This included missions of committees that developed braille codes. Results: A comparison of the braille codes showed that ICEB published a revision of the Braille Formats based on Unified English Braille(UEB) and Korea was also in the process of revising their braille codes in terms of subjects. Conclusions: For the development of braille codes in Korea, it is notable that ICEB takes an educational role that continuously introduces UEB to English-speaking countries and provides them with educational opportunities. In addition to Korean braille codes, Korea should develop a comprehensive Braille Format to provide guidance on transcribing various formats, such as illustrations and tables.
