국문 초록

연구 목적: 이 연구는 시각장애학생 교육의 질적 제고를 위하여 초점집단면담(FGI)을 통해 현재 시각장애교육 교사의 자질을 고찰하고, 이를 토대로 시각장애교육 교사의 전문성 함양 방안을 모색하는 데 목적이 있다. 연구 방법: 연구 목적을 달성하기 위해 8명의 전문가 집단(교수 집단 4명, 현장 전문가 집단 4명)을 구성하여 그룹별로 초점집단면담을 실시하였다. 연구 결과: 연구 참여자들은 첫째, 시각장애교육 교사의 전문성 부족 문제를 제기하며 현행 특수교사 양성체제에서 문제의 원인을 찾았다. 둘째, 시각장애교육 교사 전문성 확보를 위한 방안으로 현행 특수교사 양성체제를 유지하면서 현직 교사의 연수 참여 또는 대학원 과정 이수를 통한 전문성 확보 방안을 제안하였으며, 전문성 확보를 위한 적정한 교육 내용 마련과 관련 법 및 제도 개선의 필요성을 함께 제시하였다. 결론: 이 연구를 통해 시각장애교육 교사의 전문성 함양 방안과 시사점을 도출할 수 있었다. 이 연구의 결과는 시각장애교육 교사 양성체제 개선과 교육 내용 개선을 위한 방안을 모색하는 데 기초자료로 활용될 수 있을 것이다.

영문 초록

Purpose: The purposes of this study, based on focus group interviews (FGIs), are to examine the qualifications of special education teachers who teach students with visual impairments and explore advancement plans on professional development of those teachers. Method: To achieve these purposes, a group of 8 experts (4 professors, 4 field experts) was formed and focus group interviews were conducted for each group. Results: First, the findings highlighted the lack of professionalism among special education teachers when teaching students with visual impairments, which was attributed to the current special education preparation system. Second, research participants proposed ways to establish the professionalism of teachers for students with visual impairments while maintaining the current special education teacher preparation system: (a) teachers’ participation in the professional development training or (b) in-service teachers’ completion of graduate school courses. The study participants also suggested developing teacher training contents in order to secure teachers’ professionalism as well as to improve legislation/policy advancement plans and systems. Conclusion: The study findings provided implications in enhancing teachers’ professionalism when teaching students with visual impairments. The results of this study can be used as basic data to examine ways to improve the teacher preparation system for students with visual impairments and the quality of professional development training contents.
