자전적 내러티브에 나타난 청소년 독자의 독서 경험 분석

국문 초록

본 연구는 고등학생 청소년기는 상징 자원을 활용하는 기본 능력을 배양하는 적절한 시기이며 독서 그 자체가 상징 자원을 활용하는 경험이 될 수 있다는 전제에서 출발했다. Zitton의 상징 자원, 로젠블랫의 상호교섭, Dewey의 성장 개념을 바탕으로 청소년 독자들의 자전적 내러티브를 분석하고, 이들이 삶의 다양한 문제 상황에서 독서 경험을 어떻게 활용하는지 알아보는 데 목적을 두었다. 자전적 내러티브, 반구조화 면담, 관찰 등을 토대로 수집한 자료를 질적 분석하였다. 연구 결과, 청소년들의 독서 경험은 다음과 같은 특징을 보였다. 첫째, 청소년 독자의 독서 경험은 단순한 즐거움이나 재미를 넘어서서 삶의 다양한 문제를 해결하는 수단으로서 의미를 지녔다. 둘째, 청소년 독자들은 지적, 정서적, 사회적 측면에서 독서 경험을 즐거운 것으로 생각했다. 셋째, 긍정적 독서 경험을 축적한 청소년 독자들은 성숙하고 자립적인 독자의 모습으로 성장하고 있었다. 넷째, 청소년 독자의 독서 경험은 󰊱 문제 상황 ➝ 󰊲 텍스트 선택과 만남 ➝ 󰊳 책 읽기 과정[텍스트와 독자의 상호교섭] ➝ 󰊴 문제 해결 및 성취의 독서 활동 구조를 보였다. 이처럼 청소년 독자들은 현실적 갈등 상황에서 상징 자원으로서의 독서 경험을 활용하고 있었다. 이 연구는 독서 동기와 목적, 독서 습관 등과 연결된 진취적인 독서문화 진작을 위해선 보다 실용주의적 관점에서 교육 방안을 모색할 필요가 있음을 시사한다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to analyze the autobiographical narratives of high school youth readers to find out how they are using reading experiences in various life problem situations. The data collected through autobiographical narrative writing analysis, semi-structured interviews, and observations were qualitatively analyzed. As a result of the study, the reading experience of adolescents showed the following characteristics. First, the reading experience of youth readers was meaningful as a means of solving various problems in life beyond simple pleasure or fun. Second, adolescent readers thought the reading experience was enjoyable in terms of intellectual, emotional, and social aspects. Third, adolescent readers with positive reading experience were growing into mature and independent readers. Fourth, the reading experience of youth readers shows the structure of activities such as 󰊱 problem situation, 󰊲 text selection and meeting, 󰊳 book reading process (text-reader interaction), 󰊴 problem solving and achievement. Through this activity structure, high school student readers were using reading experiences as symbolic resources or symbolic tools that were helpful in realistic conflicts and problem situations. This study suggests the need to seek a reading education plan from a more pragmatic perspective in order to create a reading culture or a reading motivation for youth readers.
