사회복지전공생들의 전공 선택 동기, 전공 만족, 임금 눈높이가 사회복지 진로 결정에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구: 강원도 원주 지역 대학생을 중심으로

국문 초록

본 연구는 사회복지전공생들을 대상으로 전공 선택 동기, 전공 만족 수준, 희망 임금과 실제 사회복지사가 받을 것으로 예상하는 임금과의 차이가 진로 결정 수준에 어떻게 영향을 미치고 있는지를 살펴보았다. 이를 위해 강원도 원주 지역 4년제 대학에 재학 중인 사회복지전공생을 중심으로 설문조사를 실시하였으며 분석 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 사회복지전공생들은 적성과 흥미 등을 고려하여 스스로 결정한 정도를 의미하는 내재 요인에 의해 전공을 선택하는 경향이 높았으며 장⋅단기 외재 동기 수준은 낮아 전공을 선택함에 있어 외부 영향력은 상대적으로 낮았다. 전공만족 수준은 전반적으로 긍정적이었으나 상대적으로 학과에 대한 사회적 평판에 대해서는 높지 않게 인식하고 있었다. 사회복지전공생들은 본인들의 희망 초봉에 비해 다양한 분야의 사회복지사 초봉이 월평균 40만원 가량 낮을 것으로 인식하고 있었다. 둘째, 전공 선택 동기, 전공 만족, 임금 눈높이가 진로 결정 수준에 미치는 영향을 종합적으로 살펴본 결과 내재 요인에 의해서 전공을 선택할수록, 전공에 대한 관심이 높을수록, 진로 결정 수준이 높은 경향을 보였다. 반면, 자신이 희망하는 임금과 사회복지사 임금 수준에 대한 인식 수준의 간극이 크면 클수록 진로 결정 수준이 낮은 경향을 보였다. 이러한 결과를 기반으로 사회복지교육의 발전 방향에 대해 논의하였다.

영문 초록

This study examined how the motivation to choose a major, the level of satisfaction with the major, and the difference between the desired starting salary and the social workers' initial salary that students perceive affected the career decision level. A survey was conducted on 185 students who majored in social welfare at a four-year university in Wonju city. The analysis results are summarized as follows: First, social welfare majors tended to choose their majors due to internal factors, which means the degree of self-determination in consideration of aptitude and interest, and the level of motivation for long-term and short-term external factors was low. The level of major satisfaction was generally positive, but the social reputation of the department was relatively low. Social welfare majors expected that the starting pay of social workers in various fields would be about 400,000 won lower on average per month than their desired starting salary. Second, as a result of comprehensively examining the effect of major selection motivation, major satisfaction, and perceived initial salary level of the social workers on career decision level, the higher level of internal factors in choosing a major and interest in a major led to a higher level of career decision. On the other hand, the more significant the gap between the desired starting salary and the expected initial salary of social workers, the career decision-making level tends to be lower. Based on these results, the direction of the development of social welfare education was discussed.
