영문 초록

This study examined various roles undertake by children in peer bullying in the context of classrooms. Furthermore, their cognitive and emotional understanding levels were compared according to the roles. 746 fifth graders from three elementary schools in Seoul District nominated their classmates on their roles in peer bullying by the Participant Role Questionnaire. Based on the nominations, 180 children were selected for 6 different roles undertaken in peer-bullying: the bully, reinforcer, assistant, defender, outsider, and victim. Children s social understandings were also measured by the Social Understanding Story Tasks. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and one-way ANOVA s. Results indicate that percentages of children participated in peer bullying differ by the six roles: the outsider(24%), the defender(21%), the assistant(13%), the reinforcer(10%), the bully(8%), and the victim (7%). As for children s social understandings, the defenders have higher cognitive understandings than the victims and higher emotional understandings than the bullies.
