영국 영화 클립 시청과 영어 발음녹음 활동을 수행한 대학생들의 경험에 대한 현상학적 연구

국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 한국 대학생들이 영국 영화를 시청하고 영국식 영어 발음을 하는배우들의 실제 대사를 들은 후 자신의 목소리로 녹음하는 활동을 통해 개인 경험의 의미를 질적 연구 방법으로 분석한 것이다. 본 연구는 미국식 영어가 우리나라 교실에서지배적인 상황에서 영국식 영어가 TOEIC 듣기평가에 포함된바 필요성에 의해 수행되었다. 연구를 위해 대학 영어 수업을 듣는 학생들을 대상으로 질적연구에서 강조하는 비확률적 표본추출법을 사용하여 8명의 참가자를 선정하였다. 반구조화된 인터뷰를 통해자료를 수집하였고, 수집된 자료는 오픈코딩, 분류, 범주 확정의 단계를 거쳐 분석하였다. 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 연구참여자들은 영국식 영어 발음에 익숙하지 않아 어려움을 겪은 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 연구참여자들은 미국식 영어 발음과 영국식 영어 발음의 차이를 명확히 구분할 수 있게 되었다고 하였다. 셋째, 연구참여자들은 영국식 영어 발음이 품위 있고 세련되고 재미라는 매력을 가지고 있다고 인식하였다. 넷째, 본연구에서의 활동이 연구참여자들은 재미있고 효과적인 영어 학습 방법임을 깨닫고 있었다. 마지막으로 연구의 공헌과 한계를 기술하였다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to analyze the perceptions of individual experiences of Korean college English learners with a qualitative research method through the activities in which they watch British film clips and then record their own voices after listening to the actual lines of actors who speak British English pronunciation. This research has been conducted in response to the need for British English to be included in the TOEIC listening assessment in a situation where American English has been dominant in the classroom. The participants were selected using the non-probability sampling method emphasized in qualitative research among students taking college English classes. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, and the collected data were analyzed through the stages of open coding, categorization, and category confirmation. The results are as follows. First, the participants experienced difficulties due to their unfamiliarity with British English pronunciation. Second, they clearly classified the difference between American English pronunciation and British English pronunciation. Third, they had a feeling of charm, that is, classy, stylish, and fun about British English pronunciation. Fourth, they found that this kind of activity are a fun and effective way to learn English. Finally, the discussion was ended by stating the contributions and limitations of the study.
