폭식 경향 집단의 정보처리 과제 수행 : 작업 기억 중심으로

국문 초록

본 연구는 폭식 경향 집단의 인지적 도식을 형성하는 정보처리 과정에 대해 알아보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 서울과 경기 지역의 20대 여성 320명을 대상으로 한국판 섭식 태도 척도-26 (The Korean Version of Eating Attitude Test-26; KEAT-26), 폭식증 검사 개정판 (Bulimia Test Revised : Bulit - R), 폭식 척도(Binge Eating Scale, BES) 설문지를 진행하였다. 설문의 결과를 토대로 ‘폭식 경향 집단’ 14명과 ‘통제 집단’14명을 구성하여 실험을 진행하였다. 실험 과제는 Fenton과 Ecker(2015)의 연구에서 사용된 작업 기억 과제(Working Memory Updating Task)로, 실험을 통해 폭식 경향 집단과 통제 집단의 신체 단어, 음식 단어, 중립 단어의 단어별 정답 수, 처음 학습 시간, 부호화 시간, 회상 시간의 평균을 비교하여 집단 간 차이를 검증하였다. 본 연구의 결과로는 첫째, 폭식 경향 집단과 통제 집단의 전반적인 작업 기억 과제 수행 능력에서는 유의미한 차이가 나지 않았다. 둘째, 폭식 경향 집단과 통제 집단의 각 단어에 대한 첫 단어 학습 시간과 부호화 시간에서, 음식 단어에 대해서만 유의미한 차이가 있었다. 즉, 폭식 경향 집단이 다른 단어보다 음식 단어에 대해 더 빠른 학습과 부호화를 하였으며, 이는 폭식 경향 집단이 음식 관련 자극에 대해 특정한 주의 편향이 존재한다는 인지적 도식-정보처리 이론을 지지하는 결과라고 볼 수 있다. 셋째, 폭식 경향 집단과 통제 집단의 신체 단어에 대한 첫 단어 학습 시간에서, 통계적으로는 유의미하지 않으나 집단 간 차이 경향성을 보였다. 반면, 부호화와 회상 시간에서는 유의미한 차이가 없었다. 즉, 폭식 경향 집단이 신체단어를 받아들이는 첫 순간에는 빠르게 반응하나, 이후 반복되는 신체 단어에 대해서는 회피 반응을 나타낸다는 것으로 해석할 수 있겠다. 본 연구는 폭식 행동에 영향을 미치는 인지적 도식과 도식을 형성하는 첫 단계인 정보처리 과정에 초점을 맞추어 신체, 음식, 중립 단어를 각각 구분한 새로운 작업기억 과제를 통해 실험-통제 집단 간 차이를 확인하였다는데 의의가 있다. 추후 섭식 장애의 도식부터 작업기억에 이르는 인지적 특성을 이해하고 치료에 보다 효과적인 방법을 개발하는데 도움이 될 것으로 기대한다.

영문 초록

This study was to investigate the information processing process that forms the cognitive schema of the binge eating tendency group. 320 women in their 20s in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do responded to The Korean Version of Eating Attitude Test-26 (KEAT-26), Bulimia Test Revised (Bulit - R), Binge Eating Scale (BES). 14 binge eating tendency group and 14 control group were selected. The experimental task was a working memory updating task using the body words, food words, and neutral words. Each set of words took about 15 minutes, and the experiment with three sets of words took about 60 minutes in total. The differences between the binge eating tendency group and the control groups were examined by comparing the mean scores of the body, the food, the neutral word counts, the first learning time, the coding time, and the recall time. In the results, firstly, there was no significant group difference in the overall working memory task. Secondly, there were significant differences in the first word learning time and encoding time between groups only for food words. The binge eating tendency group performed faster learning and encoding of food words than other words. This result is supporting the cognitive schema-information processing theory that the binge eating tendency group has a specific attention bias toward food-related stimuli. Thirdly, it showed a somehow statistically significant tendency in the first word learning time of the body words in group comparison, but it didn t show any significant group difference in encoding and recall time. This result can be interpreted that while the reaction time for the first body-related word was fast, the response for the following repeated body-related words showed an avoidant tendency. This study is valuable in focusing on the cognitive schema that affects binge eating behavior and the information processing process, which is the first step in forming a schema. In particular, this study examines the differences between the binge eating tendency group and control groups through a new working memory task that dealt with independently a body, a food, and neutral words. In the future, it is expected that this study would help to understand the cognitive characteristics of eating disorders ranging from the schema to the working memory and to develop more effective therapy methods.
