유아교육기관 혼합연령학급에서의 교수 실제와 교사의 어려움

국문 초록

본 연구에서는 유아교육기관의 혼합연령학급에서 교사들이 어떠한 교수 실제를 사용하는지, 운영 과정에서의 어려움은 무엇인지에 대해 분석하고자 하였다. 이를 위하여 혼합연령학급 운영 경험이 있는 유아교사 5명을 대상으로 심층면담을 실시하였다. 연구결과 첫째, 혼합연령학급에서 교사들은 유아들의 특성을 고려해서 자리를 배치하거나 형과 아우 간의 짝꿍을 만들어주는 방법을 통한 교수 실제를 사용하고 있었으며, 각 연령이 지니고 있는 발달적 특성을 수용하고 연령에 적절한 지원을 하기 위하여 다양한 교수 전략을 사용하고자 노력하는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 혼합연령학급 교사들은 연령별 수업과 1인 교사 체제에 관한 어려움을 겪고 있는 것으로 드러났다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to understand the educational practices of mixed-age classes in kindergartens and childcare centers and to determine the difficulties expressed by teachers who teach these mixed-age classes. In-depth interviews were conducted with five early childhood teachers who have been working in mixed-age classrooms. The results of the study indicated that the teachers coordinated the seating arrangements of their students in order to facilitate interactions between children of different ages. The teachers also utilized various teaching strategies to accommodate the developmental characteristics of students from different age groups. The difficulties experienced by the teachers in mixed-age classes included a lack of knowledge in the instructional methods for children in a mixed-age grouping, misconceptions about mixed-age classes, and a lack of sensitivity toward and care for the students due to the insufficient number of teaching staff.
