장자의 ‘無’로 다시 본 유아의 앎

국문 초록

본 연구는 장자의 無의 의미를 통해 유아의 앎을 재고찰해 보고자 하였다. 이에 살펴본 장자의 無는 존재를 생성하게 하는 충만함과 경계를 두지 않고 지속하는 성질을 지녔다. 그리고 장자의 無는 자신이라는 존재조차 잊게 하는 열림의 특성을 통해 기존과 초월을 아우르는 포월함의 성격을 지닌다. 이런 측면으로 본 장자의 無는 적극적인 운동성을 지닌다. 이러한 장자의 無로 볼 때 앎은, 아는 것과 모르는 것이 하나로 통하며, 지식에 갇히지 않을 때 깨달아 가는 것이자, 物과 하나가 되어 알아가는 것임이 드러났다. 또한 장자의 無로 볼 때 앎은, 物이 자신을 드러내는 것에 밝아지는 것이며, 살아가며 생성해가는 것으로 밝혀졌다. 이에 토대하여 장자의 無로 유아의 앎을 살펴본다면, 유아는 편견 없이 物을 만나 그 자체로 대하고, 物과 하나로 얽힘으로써 物에 대해 밝아진다. 그리고 유아는 자신이 알았던 바를 선지식으로 가지지 않음으로써 살아가며 각기 다른 앎을 생성하고, 깨달으며 그 과정을 즐기는 것으로 보인다. 이처럼 장자의 無를 통해 유아의 앎을 다시 본 것은, 기존의 관점에서 드러나지 못했던 유아의 앎의 다른 측면을 재조명해봄으로써 유아교육에 새로운 관점을 제안해준다는 점에서 의미가 있다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to revisit the subject of children s knowing through the wu(無) of Chuang-tzu. Chuang-tzu s wu(無) has the following characteristics: it represents the fullness from which all things are created; and it has the lasting ability to see the connectedness of all things. Beings are considered to be intertwined because there are no boundaries, and wu(無) is shown to have an open nature. Since the wu(無) of Chuang-tzu cannot be defined, there seems to be a different generation than before. Thus, the characteristics of the wu(無) of Chuang-tzu include the existing ones and those that transcend them. Moreover, the wu(無) of Chuang-tzu is in motion, but is invisible. In view of the wu(無) of Chuang-tzu, knowing and not knowing are categorized as the same thing, and when one is not confined to knowledge, one can realize it. From the point of view of the wu(無) of Chuang-tzu, knowing becomes known when the subject becomes the one with the object, and the object becomes brighter when revealing itself. Also, Knowing is what we create while we live. Children s knowing, as seen through the wu(無) of Chuang-tzu, is as follows: children meet the object without prejudice, and are intertwined with the object and become one. Thus, children are found to generate different ways of knowing in every moment. In response, children empty their foreknowledge and constantly transform their knowing. Children s knowing is thus, closer to living the real life than to chasing after the given knowledge. In the process, children are in harmony with all the things around. They learn more about the existing values that have been defined in the target, and enjoy such enlightenment. This study is meaningful in the regard that it rediscovers children s knowing, especially their fundamental characteristics based on the point of view of wu(無), through which they share similar characteristics. Basing on the assumption that children and knowing are the fundamental themes of early childhood education, I think this study will pave the way for the progress of early childhood education.
